Chapter 343 Running into Ava While Shopping
Ashley never in a million years thought Ava would get out of prison, completely change her look with plastic surgery, and even take on a new identity!
Katherine eyed the stranger suspiciously, asking, "And you are?"
"This is Annie, George's girlfriend," Ashley introduced. "Ms. Lacey, what brings you here?"
Ava explained, "I came here to shop. I saw you from the floor below and thought I was mistaken. I followed you up here and realized I wasn't."
Katherine scrutinized Ava closely.
Even though Ava had plastic surgery, her eyes were still the same. In that moment, a look of terror flashed across Katherine's face, like she was seeing a ghost.
But when she heard Ava was George's girlfriend, she pushed her doubts aside, trusting George and thinking she must be overthinking it.
Katherine asked, "When did George start dating?"
Ashley replied, "It's been a while."
Ashley then noticed Ava was in a wheelchair and asked in surprise, "Ms. Lacey, what happened to your leg?"
"I got hit by a car," Ava replied with an innocent smile. "Ashley, do you know who the driver was? It was such a coincidence; it was Ethan."
When Ava mentioned 'Ethan,' she said it in an especially sweet tone.
Ashley felt a bit uncomfortable and frowned. "How did Ethan hit you?"
Ava explained, "It was an accident. At the time, I didn't know he was George's cousin and kept demanding compensation from him."
"Really?" Ashley's frown relaxed. The chance encounter of Ethan hitting Annie with his car seemed too remarkable.
"Why are you shopping alone? Where's George?" Ashley asked.
Ava secretly observed Ashley's emotions and smiled slyly. "He went abroad. Before he left, he specifically asked Ethan to take good care of me. But Ethan is always busy and only hired a caregiver to look after me. He doesn't come to see me anymore."
Ava's tone dripped with dissatisfaction.
"When we were in other places, George took great care of me. Even if it was late at night, Ethan would come to take care of me if I called," she lamented exasperatedly. "Who knew things would change once we got back to Aurora."
Hearing this, Ashley's frown deepened.
What was the deal with this 'Annie'? She was clearly George's girlfriend, so why did she keep mentioning 'Ethan' in a way that made Ashley uncomfortable?
"Ashley, you won't blame me, will you?" Annie asked.
Ashley gazed at her intently and finally said, "No."
Annie clarified, "Ashley, please don't misunderstand. There's nothing between Ethan and me. Ethan is just helping George take care of me. But lately, I've been feeling unwell, and the caregiver isn't doing a good job. If it's not too much trouble, could I stay at The Yates Mansion? It would be more convenient for everyone to look after each other."
Katherine, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up. "Ms. Lacey, that's not appropriate. Even if you are George's girlfriend, it's not suitable for you to stay at The Yates Mansion!"
Ashley fixed her gaze on Ava, her eyes probing as if trying to discern the truth. After a long while, Ashley remarked, "Katherine, haven't we not seen Catherine for a long time?"
"Yes, why do you ask?" Ashley smiled, a plan forming in her mind. "I think Ms. Lacey's suggestion is good. Why not bring her to The Yates Mansion and invite Catherine over to take care of her? After all, they will be mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in the future!"
The Catherine Ashley mentioned was George's mother, Catherine.
Katherine agreed, "That's a good idea. If you all live together at The Yates Mansion, no one will gossip."
Arching an eyebrow, Ashley turned to Ava. "Ms. Lacey, what do you think?"
Ava's eyes flashed with a glint, and she chuckled. "Ashley, I'm not ready to meet my future mother-in-law. Just take what I said as a joke. Don't take it to heart."
Ashley let out a cold snort, casting a disdainful glance at Ava that seemed to convey, 'You think you can outsmart me? You're too young! Only a fool would agree to let you stay at The Yates Mansion. Get lost as far as you can!'
At that moment, Ashley was certain that this 'Annie' was no simple character!
