Chapter 55 Only When There Are Feelings Will There Be Arguments

Ashley felt a pang in her heart as she faced Ethan's distrust.

Her eyes dimmed. "Ethan, I've never betrayed you, no matter who I meet. Why are you questioning me like this?"

Did he know she saw Chris last night?

Ethan's gaze was intense, searching her eyes. His presence was so overwhelming that any hint of guilt would be caught. He saw the fleeting guilt in her eyes.

His heart turned cold, as if gripped painfully.

"What do I mean?" Ethan sneered. "You know I don't want to end up like my parents. If you betrayed me..."

What would he do then?

He couldn't get a divorce, but he couldn't accept a cheating spouse either.

For a moment, Ethan's emotions were a mess.

"What would you do?"

Divorce?

Ethan said, "I'll give you one last chance."

Ashley sighed. "Ethan, let me explain. Last night, I went to see..."

Before she could finish, the door opened, and a voice came through. "Ethan, you're awake? I brought you some oatmeal. Give it a try."

Ava walked in with a bowl of oatmeal and noticed the tension between them.

Seeing their stern faces, she thought, 'Are they fighting? Good, I can use this.'

Ashley, seeing someone else was there, was about to leave with the tray but hesitated.

Ethan waited for her to speak, but she didn't. He thought she was protecting her lover, and his heart turned cold.

Ethan spoke to Ashley in a tone devoid of warmth, "You can leave now. Ava can take care of things here."

Ashley's eyes widened in disbelief. Yesterday, he was still calling her Ms. Lee, and today, it was just Ava!

Ashley felt a sour taste in her mouth, like she had eaten a lemon.

Seeing her unhappy expression, Ethan thought, 'Who gave her the guts to cheat? Does she think I can't find another woman? She needs a lesson!'

Though he was angry, seeing her unhappy face made his heart ache.

"Ethan, you're not feeling well. Let me feed you."

Ethan glanced coldly at Ashley. "Aren't you leaving?"

Ashley felt another pang in her heart. She bit her lip and left angrily.

Although Ethan was furious, he could forgive her if she told the truth. But she didn't take the chance he gave her!

Thinking about this possibility made Ethan feel restless.

"Ethan, open your mouth."

Ethan frowned in annoyance and turned his face away. "Enough, leave."

Ethan rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.

Ava stomped her foot in frustration and stormed out.

Ethan's phone rang. It was Diannel. "Mr. Yates, I've arranged for someone to follow Mrs. Yates."

"Good."

After hanging up, Ethan was lost in thought.

Ashley left the hospital, her mood sinking. Seeing Ethan with another woman made her heart ache, and tears welled up in her eyes, though she stubbornly refused to let them fall.

She called Samantha and gave her an address. Moments later, Samantha drove over to pick her up. Neither of them knew a car was secretly tailing them.

After being kicked out, Ava wanted to know what was going on, so she followed Ashley.

At the café.

Ashley and Samantha sat in a booth, sipping coffee and juice.

Ava sat nearby, eavesdropping on their conversation.

"Ashley, what's wrong? You look really upset."

Ashley sighed. "I fought with Ethan!"

"Ashley, you actually care about him. Are you serious about Ethan? Have you forgotten you two..."

Samantha glanced around cautiously, and Ava pulled her hat down further.

"Are you two actually falling for each other?"

Ashley sighed again. "Even though we're a contract couple, we've done everything a real couple does."

Thinking about Ethan's passion in bed made Ashley's face flush and her heart race.

Seeing her reaction, Samantha concluded, "You've fallen for Ethan, haven't you?"

Ashley thought for a moment. "When I see him close to another woman, I feel really uncomfortable. I don't know if it's love. Maybe it's because Ethan is my first man, and subconsciously I feel possessive!"

Samantha nodded, somewhat understanding. "So why did you and Ethan fight?"

"Last night, I went to see Chris. I didn't mention it to him when I got back, but he seemed to sense it and questioned me. I was going to tell him the truth, but then his ex-girlfriend came over to fawn over him, and I got angry and didn't say anything."

"Why don't you just explain it clearly?"

Samantha analyzed, "So, you don't like other women getting close to Ethan, and Ethan doesn't want you near other men. That means you both care about each other! You're both jealous!"

Hearing this, Ava, who was eavesdropping, felt a wicked thought arise.

They were unknowingly falling for each other. She couldn't let it happen. She had to find a way to ruin their relationship...
