Chapter 325 She Gained Weight
The couple finally got around to making a phone call after what felt like forever, and they both gushed about how much they missed each other, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
Ethan, sounding a bit whiny, said, "Babe, I miss you so much, I'm losing my mind!"
Ashley replied, "Babe, I miss you too. I'm out in the countryside with my family, and there's no signal here. I came to town to shop and called you as soon as I could."
Ashley pouted, "I tried calling you over ten times and waited for more than two hours."
Ethan, surprisingly in a playful tone, said, "I was stuck in a meeting. Next time, I'll set a special ringtone just for you. No matter what I'm doing, I'll pick up your call first."
Ashley nodded, feeling satisfied.
Ethan suggested, "How about we hang up and switch to video chat?"
Ashley agreed.
They hung up, and soon enough, Ethan's video call came through. Ashley answered right away.
Ashley was sitting by the roadside on a car, wearing a straw hat. The sun was so strong that her pretty face was flushed red.
Ethan carefully observed Ashley's face, "Babe, we haven't seen each other for over ten days, right? How come you went to the countryside and seem to have gained some weight?"
Ashley touched her face in surprise, "I've had a good appetite lately, maybe I've been eating too much and gained weight. Oh no, I need to control myself, or I'll turn into a chubby girl."
Ethan quickly said, "Babe, I thought you were too skinny before. You look better with a bit more weight. Your face is so rosy, like an apple. I just want to take a bite."
Ashley blushed at Ethan's sweet talk.
Ashley playfully scolded, "I don't want to get fat. You guys only like slim girls. If I become chubby, you'll definitely leave me."
Ethan retorted, "You're talking about other guys, but I'm different. I think a little bit of chubbiness is cute. It makes you more huggable."
Ashley rolled her eyes, "You're so annoying."
Ashley, who had been staying in the countryside recently, hadn't paid much attention to her appearance. After Ethan's comment, she realized she had indeed gained some weight. She secretly decided to watch her diet, or she might really get out of shape!
Ashley carefully observed Ethan, "Babe, why have you lost weight?"
Seeing Ethan had lost a lot of weight, Ashley felt deeply distressed.
Ethan sighed, "The hotel food isn't as good as what you make. I just ate a little to get by, and with the tiring work, I lost quite a bit of weight."
Ashley asked, "When are you coming back? I'll cook you some nutritious meals, and in no time, you'll feel much healthier and more energetic."
Ethan had gotten so used to Ashley's cooking that he only ate out when he was absolutely starving. As he put it, her cooking had spoiled him, and nothing else could compare.
"Just one more week," he said.
Ashley sighed, "That still feels like forever!"
"What, can't wait to see me?" Ethan smirked, "Even though I've lost some weight, I still have muscles when I take off my shirt."
Ashley blushed, "Ethan, I'm by the roadside!"
She shyly looked around. Luckily, no one was paying attention to her, or she would have been mortified.
Ashley playfully scolded, "Talk properly!"
Ethan grinned, "You're so cute."
Ashley was so flustered by Ethan's teasing that she didn't want to talk to him anymore.
Ethan asked, "Babe, when are you coming back to Aurora?"
Ashley replied, "Probably in the next couple of days. Why?"
Ethan said, "Tell me the exact time."
Ashley thought for a moment, "I'll leave the day after tomorrow, and I should be in Aurora the day after that."
Ethan nodded, "Alright, get some good rest these days. Call me when you get to Aurora."
"Okay." Ashley nodded, reluctantly looking at Ethan, "Should I hang up?"
Ethan smiled, "You hang up first."
They lingered sweetly for a while, and it was half an hour before they reluctantly hung up.
Liam said, "Ashley, are you done? I've been waiting over there for more than three hours. How do you and Ethan have so much to talk about!"
His voice was full of complaints, but thinking about how much Ashley and Ethan loved each other, Liam felt happy for them too.
Ashley blushed, "Liam, thank you. I'll make you something delicious when we get back."
Liam happily said, "Great, those three hours were totally worth it!"
Liam started the vehicle, and they headed back.
Meanwhile, Ethan hung up the phone, still basking in the sweetness of the call, and it took him a while to snap out of it.
Ethan organized his files and dialed an internal line.
"Mr. Yates, any instructions?"
Ethan, in a commanding tone, said, "Notify the team to complete a week's work plan within two days. There will be bonuses after the work is done."
After hanging up, Ethan threw himself into work with renewed energy.
Ethan wanted to see Ashley as soon as possible, seemingly turning into a workaholic.
Ashley and Liam returned to William's place, and it was already dark.
Ashley stood in front of the mirror, examining herself, "Liam, I really do look like I've gained weight!"
Liam then carefully looked at Ashley and teased, "Well, you do seem a bit fuller. You look great, though. Actually, with this figure, you almost look like you might be pregnant!"
