Chapter 152 The White Family Heirloom
Ethan looked puzzled. "The DNA report got denied? How's that even possible?"
He trusted his team; they wouldn't mess up something so basic.
Forgetting how upset Ashley was, Ethan said, "There must be something wrong with this test."
Ashley glanced at Landon and Liam, bit her lip, and stayed quiet. The room got awkward.
Liam spoke up, "Mr. Yates, even though the report says no blood relation, I care for Ashley from the bottom of my heart."
Ethan's eyes narrowed. "You like Ashley?"
Sensing the tension, Liam quickly clarified, "Mr. Yates, don't get me wrong. I see her as a sister."
Ethan relaxed a bit. "My team wouldn't make such a basic mistake. I'll have someone look into it."
Ashley looked worried. She had thought about another DNA test but feared the same result.
Liam asked, "Mr. Yates, are you planning another DNA test?"
Ethan replied, "If you think it's necessary, I suggest you go for it."
Liam and Landon exchanged glances. Ashley looked at them, hopeful but conflicted.
"Landon, if you don't mind, we can do another—"
Landon interrupted with a cough, "Liam, I think Ms. Wilson is fine. Let's not bother her and visit our parents at the treatment center."
Liam frowned but Landon gave him a warning look. They had a silent standoff, and Liam gave in.
Liam said, "Ashley, take care. I'll see you another day."
He decided to do another DNA test with Ashley secretly when Landon wasn't around.
Ashley nodded. "Okay, be careful."
"See you next time."
They exchanged smiles and goodbyes. Ashley watched them leave.
Outside, Liam fumed, "Landon, why not do another DNA test? It's just a blood draw."
Landon shrugged. "I'm busy; my time is precious. If you have nothing better to do, go do it yourself."
Landon added, "There was never enough evidence to suggest Ashley is our sister. The DNA report says we're not related. Why are you so concerned?"
He eyed Liam seriously. "You haven't fallen for her, have you?"
Liam sighed. "Landon, that's ridiculous."
He saw Ashley as a sister, not romantically. He couldn't understand Landon's thinking.
Samantha overheard their conversation as she left the ward. She decided to wait in the corner until they left.
"Well, I hope so," Landon said. "Remember, our sister always had that sapphire necklace, our family heirloom. Mom and Dad gave it to her, not us."
"I've been watching Ashley lately. She looks like our parents, but the DNA says no blood relation. Plus, she doesn't wear the sapphire necklace."
Liam rolled his eyes. "Who carries something that valuable all the time? Maybe she left it at home."
"If she had the necklace, would you do another DNA test?" Liam asked.
Landon thought for a moment. "Yes. If she has that necklace, I'll do another test."
"Alright, I'll arrange a visit to her home to check."
As they walked away, Samantha touched her chin, remembering Ashley had a sapphire necklace. She had asked Ashley about it, but Ashley just locked it away.
"Could the DNA test be wrong? I should tell Ashley to show them the necklace," Samantha muttered, heading to get hot water.
Unbeknownst to her, Felicity had also overheard the conversation. She wasn't interested in the necklace or DNA but was infatuated with Landon.
Suddenly, Felicity's phone rang. It was Ivy. She found a secluded spot to answer.
"Ivy."
"Felicity, you're at the hospital, right? Can you find out how Ashley, Landon, and Liam reacted to the DNA report? Are they planning a retest?"
