Chapter 200 Aftermath

Felicity's eyes flickered. "Aunt Ivy, it's not even been a month. Can we wait a bit longer for the check-up?"

Ivy's eyes showed disdain, and she let out a dry laugh. "Fine, Landon already told me. It's not convenient for you to stay here. I've got a car ready. Come back with me. I heard Ethan's coming back soon."

Ivy made up the news about Ethan, not wanting her chosen daughter-in-law involved with another man.

Seeing Ivy's forcefulness, Felicity felt a surge of rebellion inside, but she put on a sweet face and said, "Aunt Ivy, I'll follow your arrangements."

Ivy nodded, satisfied. "Good girl, you're much better than Ashley..."

Mentioning Ashley, Ivy snorted disdainfully.

Ivy had someone help Felicity leave. On the way, Felicity kept looking for Landon. He was in the yard playing with a cat, looking like a dreamy prince charming in the sunlight.

Felicity stared, mesmerized.

"Landon."

Ivy called out. Landon looked over. "What?"

Landon saw Ivy and hesitated. He wanted to ask about Ashley but felt it was presumptuous. So, he swallowed his words.

Ivy gave a fake smile. "Thanks for taking care of Felicity. I'll take her back now, so Ashley won't be bored at home."

Landon sensed the underlying message and frowned slightly, displeased.

"No need to thank me..."

Landon wanted to retort but stayed silent. Deep down, he wanted Ashley to be happy. It must have been frustrating for her to see her love rival every day.

Ivy gave a meaningful smile and left with Felicity. Felicity hoped Landon would ask her to stay, but he didn't, leaving her disappointed and heartbroken.

Ferndale.

Ethan had been unconscious for a day due to a high fever. Ashley stayed by his side, talking to him.

That day, Ethan's temperature finally returned to normal. When he woke up, he saw Ashley sleeping by his bedside and felt deeply moved.

"Ashley..."

Ethan called out, his voice hoarse.

Ashley woke up and, seeing Ethan awake, excitedly said, "Ethan, you're finally awake. I'll get the doctor."

Ashley was about to press the button on her wheelchair when Ethan, seeing her move, said emotionally, "Ashley! Don't move!"

"I'll do it myself."

Ethan pressed the emergency call button by the bed. "The doctor will be here soon."

"How are you feeling? You've had a fever for days, and it only went down this morning."

Ethan didn't answer but instead looked at her hand with concern. "How's your hand? Didn't the doctor say you shouldn't move it?"

He held her hand like it was a precious treasure.

Ashley felt deeply moved, thinking all her efforts were worth it.

She smiled lightly. "I'm fine. My hand is healing well. I should be able to remove the cast soon."

In reality, this was a lie.

Only Ashley knew that after modifying those shoes, her wrist would occasionally throb with excruciating pain.

Especially after it rained last night, her wrist pain was unbearable and kept her up all night.

She thought her hand would definitely have lasting issues.

But she couldn't worry about that now.

Ashley didn't want to tell Ethan about this.

"Really? Weren't you in Aivalia? When did you come to Ferndale?"

Ashley's eyes flickered. "Diannel told me you were hospitalized. I was worried, so I took a flight yesterday and just arrived in Ferndale."

Ethan said, "Ashley, you're still a patient yourself. You've gone through so much trouble. Thank you for always being there for me."

Ashley shook her head. "It's no trouble."

They looked at each other, smiling with deep affection, and the atmosphere warmed.

Ethan touched her hair and gently rubbed her dark circles. "Your dark circles are heavy. Didn't you sleep well last night?"

Ashley nodded. Her wrist had hurt most of the night, and she only fell asleep at dawn. She estimated she hadn't slept more than three hours.

"Do you want to lie down next to me and sleep for a bit?"

As he spoke, the door opened. Morgan entered with a few doctors for rounds, just in time to hear Ethan's words, which sounded very intimate to outsiders.

Ashley's face turned bright red, and she glared at Ethan playfully.

Morgan coughed awkwardly. "Ethan, you're finally awake. Ashley has been by your side for almost two days..."

Ashley quickly pretended to cough to stop Morgan from saying too much.

She gave Morgan a look. "Dr. Hotchner, could you please check Ethan again to see if his inflammation has subsided?"

But due to the angle, Ethan didn't catch it.
