Chapter 42 You Deserve it
Ethan felt dizzy the whole way but kept it together, pretending everything was fine.
He couldn't catch a word of Kelsey and Ashley's chat.
When Kelsey invited Ashley, Ashley instinctively glanced at Ethan.
Kelsey reassured her, "This party's just for women, no guys allowed. Don't worry."
"Mrs. Yates, why do you keep looking at Mr. Yates. Don't want to leave him?"
Ashley forced a smile. "It's an honor to accept your invite. I'll be there tonight."
With no men at the party, nothing unexpected should happen.
"Great, I'm really looking forward to having you at dinner, Mrs. Yates."
Kelsey shared some fun stories about Ferndale, and Ashley listened, nodding occasionally.
They arrived at the first tourist spot.
"Mr. Yates, Mrs. Yates, this is Crystal Haven Retreat, a famous paradise in Ferndale."
The island was in full bloom with wildflowers, instantly lifting their spirits.
Ashley took out her phone, found the right angle, and snapped a few scenic photos.
"Ethan, it's rare for us to visit Ferndale. Let's take some pictures together."
Ashley, in high spirits, suggested taking photos.
Ethan's head was foggy, and the cold mountain wind made him break out in a cold sweat. However, he gritted his teeth and said, "Sure," as if everything was normal.
They leaned close for a selfie. Ashley took out her phone, and with a click, she smiled brightly while he remained expressionless.
Seeing this, Ashley said irritably, "Why are you pulling a long face? Can't you smile?"
"Let's take another one."
Ethan's voice had become very hoarse.
"Ethan, are you feeling unwell? Maybe you should rest first?"
"No need."
Ethan extended his arm, wrapped it around Ashley's waist, took the phone, and snapped a photo of them.
With a click, in the first photo, Ethan smiled while Ashley looked at him, making the picture both funny and heartwarming.
The second photo.
"Look at the camera, not at me!"
Ashley sensed something was off with him and was about to show concern, but he told her to look at the camera.
She turned to face the camera, and they both smiled. With a click, Ethan suddenly coughed, his hand shook, and the photo turned out blurry.
"Are you okay? You shouldn't be out in the wind if you have a cold. Maybe you should go rest in the car?"
Ashley patted Ethan's back, and Ethan coldly looked at her. "It's all your fault. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have caught a cold."
Ashley blushed and said, "That's because you were restless! You deserve it!"
Ashley's voice was both coquettish and alluring. Ethan squinted at her with a dangerous look. "Wait till I get better, and see how I deal with you!"
The atmosphere between them was both ambiguous and sweet.
Ashley made a face at him and stomped on his foot. "Then I'll deal with you first."
With that, she turned and ran.
Ethan watched the woman run off, his eyes unconsciously showing affection. However, the next second, he was hit with a severe headache and rubbed his temples in pain.
Diannel, who had been silent all along, said, "Mr. Yates, you seem very unwell. Maybe you should go rest in the car."
"Alright, keep an eye on Mrs. Yates and make sure nothing happens to her."
"Understood."
Ethan rubbed his temples and fell asleep as soon as he got in the car.
Kelsey watched Ethan and Ashley's intimate interaction from a distance, her eyes flashing with cold malice. When Ashley turned to look at her, she immediately put on a smile and said, "Mrs. Yates, there's more beautiful scenery over there. Let's go take a look."
"Sure."
Ashley didn't think much of it and followed Kelsey in another direction. Diannel followed for a few steps but was stopped by two guards. "Sorry, you can't come any closer."
Diannel anxiously watched Ashley's receding figure, thinking; Why did Mr. Yates ask him to keep an eye on Mrs. Yates? Kelsey is a queen; she wouldn't do anything to a commoner, right...
