Chapter 291 Ashley Was Exposed
Ryan was glued to the surveillance footage, totally floored that even with the cops trying every trick in the book, Felicity stayed tight-lipped. But the second Ashley showed up, Felicity started spilling the beans.
In the footage, Felicity began to explain, "That day, Ivy made me drug you guys, and then I was supposed to hook up with Mr. Yates."
Ryan gave Ashley a nod of approval, "Ashley's got some serious skills. Just a few words and Felicity's singing like a canary."
Pauline puffed out her chest and said, "Of course, Ashley is the best."
Ryan grinned and said, "You asked me to let a non-cop interrogate a suspect. That's a pretty big favor. How are you gonna pay me back?"
Pauline tried to make a run for it, but Ryan was one step ahead. He reached out and pinned her against the table.
It looked like Ryan was holding Pauline in a tight embrace.
Pauline's face turned beet red, "Let go of me."
She shoved him away and bolted, picking up the pace to get out of there. Ryan watched her retreat with a smirk.
Then it hit Ryan, "Ethan probably has no clue that Ashley's awake!"
Ryan whipped out his phone, snapped a pic, and posted it on Ethan's Facebook: [Ashley is with me.]
Ethan, who was having dinner with Liam, got the notification. His face darkened as soon as he saw it.
"Ethan, what are you looking at? This steak is amazing. Take your time, man. You gotta chew it slow to really enjoy it," Liam was just babbling to buy Ashley more time.
Ethan's eyes narrowed as he read the message. Hearing Liam's words, he quickly put two and two together.
Ethan snorted and squinted his eyes.
"What's up?" Liam asked, feeling a bit nervous, thinking, did he figure something out?
Ethan sneered, "Liam, you're talking like that steak in front of you is a fine cup of tea."
"Pretty much the same," Liam said.
Ethan's eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing in them.
Ever since Ashley's car accident, Ethan had been a wreck, barely eating or sleeping.
And now, here she was, awake and playing possum!
'Damn! She needs a wake-up call!' Ethan xursed inwardly.
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Ethan's hand started chopping the steak faster and faster.
Felicity recounted the whole incident.
Felicity asked hopefully, "Ms. Wilson, I don't like Ethan. I never wanted to break you two up. I know Landon might not accept me, but..."
Her eyes dropped to her belly, "As long as Landon acknowledges the baby, that's enough."
Ashley let out a small sigh and said, "I'll let Landon know. Whatever he decides, it's up to him."
Their chat was wrapping up, and Ashley stood up, "Ms. Zito, thanks for being straight with me."
Everyone's got their own struggles in this world.
Felicity, under pressure, had to go along with Ivy's scheme but didn't want to betray her true feelings, ending up with a guy she didn't love. So, she cooked up this whole mess!
Ashley turned and walked out.
"Ashley, I've got the recording ready." Pauline handed the backup file to Ashley.
Ashley nodded, "Well done."
As they left the police station, Ashley remembered, "By the way, Ryan knows I came here, right?"
"Yeah, he set it up for you," Pauline replied.
Ashley said, "Tell him to keep quiet about me pretending to be unconscious. Tomorrow, after I hold a press conference, I'll explain everything myself."
"Got it." Pauline watched Ashley leave before heading back to the office, where she found Ryan messing around on his phone.
"Mr. Reid, you didn't tell Mr. Yates that Ashley came, did you?" she asked.
Ryan raised an eyebrow, "Take a guess."
Pauline was speechless, "You promised to keep it a secret!"
Ryan waved his phone, "Check it out."
The phone showed the Facebook chat between Ryan and Ethan. Not only had Ryan spilled the beans about Ashley, but he also had photographic proof!
Plus, Ethan had replied: [You can pick a treasure from the Yates warehouse.]
The treasures in the Yates warehouse were worth a fortune. Ethan was being super generous!
Pauline fumed, "Ryan, you jerk, you got Ashley into big trouble!"
"What do you mean I got her into trouble?" Ryan casually put his arm around Pauline's shoulder, "They're married. Even if they argue, it's just part of the deal. Besides, they might not even argue! Chill out!"
Without realizing it, the two got closer, and the vibe got more intimate.
After finishing dinner and paying the bill, Ethan was ready to head back to the hospital.
Liam tried to stop him, "Ethan, I'm stuffed. Let's take a walk before going back."
Ethan's eyes were intense, "What's there for two grown men to walk around for? I'd rather get back to the ward."
"Come on, let's take a couple of laps?" Liam kept blocking Ethan until he heard his phone beep twice. He pulled it out and saw Ashley's message: [I'm safely back in the ward.]
Ethan saw through his little tricks and sneered, "Alright, Liam, let's go for a run!"
Liam just wanted to buy time, but he didn't want to run!
