Chapter 212 Ethan Cooks Personally 2
She saw Ethan in the kitchen, gripping a cleaver with both hands, trying to chop bones.
The noise was constant, but he hadn't managed to chop the bones; he almost split the cutting board instead.
The kitchen was filled with smoke, and there was a burnt smell.
"Ashley, why are you up?"
"Oh no, my food's burnt."
Ethan growled and rushed to turn off the stove.
Ashley exclaimed, "Ethan, why are you cooking?"
He didn't know how to cook, so why was he trying now?
Ashley coughed and said, "Why didn't you turn on the exhaust fan? The whole house is smoky!"
She walked into the kitchen, covering her nose, and turned on the exhaust fan.
Once the fan was on, the smoke slowly cleared.
"Ashley, I'm sorry. It's my first time cooking, and I didn't expect this mess."
Ashley looked at Ethan and started laughing.
Ethan asked, confused, "Why are you laughing?"
Ashley pointed at his face and laughed. "Your face."
If anyone saw the CEO of Yates Group looking like a soot-covered cat in the kitchen, it would be hilarious.
"What's wrong with my face?"
Ethan hadn't noticed his face was covered in soot. He wiped it with his sleeve, turning his white shirt black.
Now, Ethan finally realized.
"How did it get so dirty?"
Ashley said, "You look like you fell into a pile of coal."
Ashley sighed, dampened a towel with warm water, and started wiping Ethan's face.
They were very close, almost face to face, their breaths mingling. The atmosphere became sweet and intimate.
The orange light cast a beautiful scene on them. They looked into each other's eyes, smiling, their gazes sparkling.
"All clean now."
Ethan's face was back to its clean and handsome state.
Ethan smiled and kissed Ashley's cheek. "Thanks, honey."
Ashley asked, "Why did you suddenly decide to cook?"
"When I was young, I heard that recovering from fractures needs protein and calcium," Ethan said, "So I bought some meat to make you soup."
"And I bought some vegetables too."
"I wanted to make you a candlelight dinner, but I messed it up."
Ethan's tone was filled with regret.
Ashley looked around the kitchen. Vegetables were scattered everywhere, the food in the pot was burnt, and the corn was still unpeeled and burnt in the pot...
"Did you buy all these ingredients?"
Ashley was touched but also a bit speechless seeing the messy kitchen.
Seeing this, Ethan felt ashamed and wished he could melt into the floor. "Sorry, I made a mess of the kitchen."
"It's okay," Ashley said, "How could I blame you when you cooked for me?"
She rolled up her sleeves, ready to clean up.
"Ashley, let me do it. Your hand..." Ethan got excited and almost mentioned her injury. He paused and said, "Your hand hasn't healed yet. You shouldn't do heavy work."
Ashley thought for a moment and said, "Where's the maid we hired?"
"I gave them the day off."
Ashley was slightly taken aback. It seemed Ethan really wanted to cook dinner for her himself. She couldn't help but smile, deeply moved by Ethan's actions.
"How about..." Ashley suggested, "we do it together?"
"Okay."
Ethan and Ashley worked together in the kitchen, like a couple who had been married for years, perfectly in sync.
Ashley started sorting the vegetables, and Ethan mimicked her actions.
After a while, her hand started to tremble again, but she tried to act naturally. However, despite her efforts, Ethan noticed.
Ethan said, "Ashley, I think I left my phone in the living room. Can you check if Diannel called me?"
"Okay."
Ethan deliberately sent Ashley away and then mimicked her way of sorting the vegetables. This time, he got the hang of it and did it smoothly.
When Ashley returned, she saw that Ethan had already sorted all the vegetables.
Ashley exclaimed, "Ethan, you learned so fast!"
"Of course."
Ethan smiled and said, "Do you think I'm impressive?"
Ethan recalled his childhood and said, "When I was young, my parents were busy with work and didn't have time for me. I had to rely on myself for many things."
"Although I never cooked, I had to figure out other things in life on my own. I learned a lot by mimicking others..."
Ashley eagerly asked, "And then?"
Ethan seriously asked, "Do you want to hear more?"
"Of course."
If he was willing to confide in her, she was willing to listen.
From his tone, it seemed that although he had a worry-free life as a child, he must have felt quite lonely inside...
