Chapter 178 Come Quickly
The doorbell rang at Ashley's place.
Sienna opened the door to find Alex and Buddy. Buddy, seeing the open door, wagged his tail, yanked the leash free, and bolted inside.
Alex sighed, "Sorry, Ms. Nelson. Buddy's causing trouble again."
"It's fine. Buddy really loves Ashley."
Alex chuckled, his smile warm and inviting, like a sunny winter day.
Sienna was captivated by his smile. She remembered Ashley's confident and radiant grin. Together, they would be the perfect pair, making everyone envious.
Ethan, on the other hand, had a mature and commanding presence, making Ashley seem delicate and dependent, also sparking envy.
But as a friend, Sienna thought Ashley was more herself around Alex and rooted for them as a couple.
So, Sienna tried to set them up.
Alex noticed Sienna's intense gaze, feeling a bit uneasy.
"Ms. Nelson, why are you looking at me like that?" he asked awkwardly.
"Mr. Hill, how many girlfriends have you had?"
Alex was taken aback.
"Don't get me wrong, I'm asking for Ashley."
Relieved, Alex's surprise turned to shyness. "I... dated one girl in high school, but it didn't last long."
"So you have some experience. I can tell you like Ashley. If you want to pursue her, I'm all for it!"
Sienna made a cheering gesture, and Alex smiled shyly.
Then he remembered Ashley was married, and his expression turned sad.
"Ms. Nelson, please don't say anything to Ashley. She's still married, and I don't want to complicate things for her."
Alex's voice grew somber.
"You mean that jerk Ethan?" Sienna said.
Alex looked surprised. "Why do you call him that?"
Though Alex was jealous of Ethan, he never thought of badmouthing him.
"He's a jerk. He cheated on Ashley, and when she found out, he didn't even apologize. Isn't that scummy?"
Meanwhile, Ethan had just settled on the plane when he sneezed several times.
"Mr. Yates, are you catching a cold? When we get to Ferndale, I'll have Diannel arrange for a doctor," his assistant said.
Ethan rubbed his nose. "I'm fine."
His ears were burning. Was someone talking about him?
"Thomas, I'm heading out. Make sure to contact Ashley for me."
"Got it, Mr. Yates. Don't worry."
Thomas stepped aside as Ethan closed the plane door. The plane took off immediately.
Watching it ascend, Thomas sighed and called for a driver.
"Thomas, where to?"
"To Mrs. Ashley Yates' place."
Alex was stunned by Sienna's words. "How could he do that to Ashley? She's amazing. How could he hurt her?"
Sienna fumed, "That's why I call him an immature jerk. Mr. Hill, you seem like a good guy. If you really like Ashley, cherish her always if you end up together!"
Alex straightened up, serious. "Ms. Nelson, don't worry. I'll never let Ashley down."
Seeing his sincerity, Sienna nodded approvingly. "I believe you. Ashley's in a bad mood and needs comfort. I just made some soup for her. Take it to her and feed her."
Alex blushed and nodded. "Okay."
Ashley lay on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. Tears flowed whenever she thought of the voice she heard when she called Ethan.
As she was feeling depressed and helpless, Buddy wandered in.
Buddy wagged his tail, propped himself up on the bed, and nuzzled Ashley's cheek.
"Buddy? How did you get here? Did Alex come too?"
Seeing Buddy, Ashley's eyes finally showed some light.
Buddy jumped around happily.
"Is Alex outside? Did you miss me so much you couldn't wait to see me?"
"Awwooo~"
Buddy nodded.
"Good boy, you're so smart. You understand everything I say."
Ashley wanted to pet his head but couldn't move. This made her sad again, enveloping her in a depressive aura.
Buddy noticed her mood, jumped onto the bed, snuggled up, and rubbed against her, trying to comfort her.
Ashley, initially down, was cheered up by his comfort.
"With such a smart and cute pet, Alex must be happy every day."
Buddy wagged his tail, as if agreeing.
Outside the door, a voice called out, "Well, that's not true. Buddy's a troublemaker. Our house is almost destroyed by him."
Ashley looked towards the voice and saw Alex.
"Alex?"
She smiled at him, but her eyes turned cold. She instinctively wanted to keep her distance, but she couldn't move her limbs.
