Chapter 362 He Wants to Cherish His Wife and Children for a Lifetime

Restaurant

Ethan followed the address provided by Doris and arrived at the private dining room. However, upon entering, he found a mixed-race man sitting next to Doris.

Discreetly, Ethan observed him, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.

This man, Ethan remembered, was the one he had accidentally bumped into at the hospital the other day. He thought it was just a chance encounter, but here they were again!

"Ethan's here!" Doris appeared particularly tense. "I didn't know about your food preferences, so feel free to order whatever you like."

"Alright." Ethan stepped forward, took the menu, and started flipping through it.

Doris felt her heart pounding in her chest, her nerves on edge as she sat across from Garrett. Garrett poured a cup of warm water and handed it to her with a gentle smile. Doris drank the warm water, but the warmth did little to calm her nerves.

Ethan watched their actions out of the corner of his eye, already anticipating what Doris was about to reveal.

"Ethan," Doris mustered up the courage to say, "this is Garrett Murphy. He's from Ferndale, half Ferndale and half Aivalia."

"Garrett, this is my son, Ethan."

When mentioning Ethan, Doris's eyes lit up as if Ethan was someone she was proud of.

Garrett extended his hand and greeted, "Mr. Yates, good evening."

Ethan reciprocated, shaking his hand firmly, "Mr. Murphy, good evening."

The two shook hands, and Ethan sat back down, waiting for Doris to continue.

Doris licked her lips nervously before speaking, "Ethan, there's something I need to confess."

Ethan met her gaze. Although he had already guessed the answer, he still wanted to hear it from her. Doris continued, "After James and I separated, I married Garrett. Would you blame me for marrying someone else?"

Just as expected!

Ethan gave a self-deprecating smile, lowered his eyes to the menu. Indifferently, he replied, "Mom, that's your business. I have no right to interfere."

Hearing Ethan's response, Doris breathed a sigh of relief.

However, the indifference in Ethan's demeanor hinted at underlying emotions he was concealing. Doris grew more anxious.

Doris asked nervously, "Ethan, are you mad at me?"

Ethan smiled reassuringly. "No, the food is here. You can see if there's anything else you need."

Handing her the menu, Ethan diverted the conversation.

Doris looked deeply at Ethan and only felt relieved when she saw a smile on his face.

Soon, their ordered dishes arrived, and the meal commenced.

During the meal, only Garrett and Doris communicated, their affectionate exchanges leaving Ethan feeling increasingly isolated.

The meal tasted like lemons to Ethan—tart and bitter. He ate only a few bites before elegantly wiping his mouth with a napkin.

Doris probed, "Ethan, why are you eating so little?"

Ethan smiled softly and replied, "I'm used to Ashley's cooking. Food from outside just doesn't taste the same."

Hearing this, Doris and Garrett exchanged smiles.

Just then, Ashley called. Ethan's eyes lit up instantly. "Mom, Ashley is calling me. I'll step outside to take it." he excused himself, stepping outside.

Doris and Garrett exchanged a smile. "Ethan and Ashley are really meant for each other." Garrett remarked.

"Yes, everyone loves them." Doris agreed.

"Your foot injured. You need to eat more protein to heal. Here, let me feed you." Garrett offered.

Doris blushed and opened her mouth to eat the piece of meat Garrett provided. Their silent exchange spoke volumes of their affection for each other.Ethan stood at the door, watching this scene through the gap. His gaze clouded with unspoken emotions, and he gave a self-deprecating smile, burying his true feelings deep inside.

After all, his parents' happiness was more important!

Gathering his composure, Ethan moved to a secluded spot to return Ashley's call. "Hey, honey."

Ashley's voice greeted him warmly, "Did you see the message I sent you? I had to come to William for something urgent."

Ethan, sounding like a wronged wife, responded, "I saw it. You're gone for three days, and there's no signal in the mountains. I can't reach you by phone. How am I supposed to sleep at night?"

Ashley reassured him, "Honey, you managed over half a month last time. Can't you handle three days? It'll be over in the blink of an eye!"

Ethan requested, "Then you have to go to town every day and contact me once a day."

Ashley thought for a moment and replied, "Alright, I'll do that."

A smile graced Ethan's face as he remarked, "You're the best."

Concerned, Ashley inquired, "Honey, have you had dinner? I prepared three days' worth of food in the fridge. If you don't like eating out, just heat it up."

Ethan responded, "I'm having dinner with Doris."

At this point, his eyes dimmed, and he said somewhat wistfully, "Honey, Doris is already married."

"So Doris informed you already?" Ashley remarked, her tone indicating she had known the news.

Surprised and slightly sullen, Ethan questioned, "You knew already?"

Ashley clarified, "I overheard them talking the other day, but it's better for Doris to tell you herself."

Ashley added, "Honey, are you very upset? You're thirty years old. Do you still want your parents to be with you?"

Ethan asserted arrogantly, "I have you, my wife, by my side now. I don't need them."

Then, adopting a more solemn tone, Ethan continued, "Honey, we have to stay in love forever and give our kids all the love. We can't let them feel unloved in their childhood. Childhood unhappiness can make someone miserable for a lifetime!"

Ethan's miserable childhood was a shadow over his life. He swore he would love his wife and kid for eternity!
