Chapter 34 Trending Again
"Ugh!"
Ashley’s eyes went wide with disbelief. Ethan's rough kisses and bites made her groan in pain. She struggled but couldn't break free, waiting for him to finish venting his anger.
"Ethan, are you jealous because you saw me with my ex?" she asked.
Ethan sneered. "Jealous? I don't even like you. I'm just warning you—if the media catches you in another scandal, you'll regret it!"
Ashley felt a pang of disappointment. She thought he was jealous, but he was just worried about his reputation. "Fine, don't worry. I won't let the media catch me again."
Both of them sulked as Ethan drove away in silence.
Half an hour later, Ethan's luxury car pulled up to the old mansion.
"Welcome back, Mr. Yates."
Today was different; all the servants were out to greet them, making quite a scene.
Ethan looked indifferent, while Ashley felt embarrassed.
"Ethan, Ashley, you're back," Michael and Katherine said, walking side by side with a man and a woman.
"Grandpa, Grandma." Ethan nodded. When he saw the man and woman behind them, a glint flashed in his eyes.
Michael and Katherine smiled warmly, but the man and woman beside them looked serious, sizing up Ashley with disdain.
"Hello, Grandpa and Grandma. Sorry to bother you again. Here's a little gift for you," Ashley said, handing over a wooden box of gifts she had her assistant arrange overnight.
"Thank you..."
She glanced at the man and woman standing next to Ethan's grandparents, pondering their connection. "Hello, Uncle and Aunt. This is a gift for you."
They exchanged glances and said disdainfully, "Spending my son's money to curry favor? You sure know how to play the game!"
Ashley smiled and let the sarcasm slide.
Ethan frowned. "Dad, if you can't speak nicely, you can choose to keep quiet."
"You!"
Ethan's father, James Yates, was about to retort when Ivy Yates intervened, "Alright, let's talk inside."
"Yes, everyone, let's go inside first."
As they walked towards the hall, Ethan whispered to Ashley, "Those were my parents. Don't be afraid of them. I'll help you if anything happens."
Ashley raised an eyebrow. She thought Ethan would leave her to fend for herself after their argument, but his willingness to help made her see him in a new light.
"Okay, I understand."
Once everyone was seated on the sofa, Ethan's mother, Ivy, said, "Ms. Wilson, I'll get straight to the point. You know Ethan's status is not ordinary. His spouse should be someone of equal standing. After you give birth, you should divorce Ethan."
Ashley smiled faintly. "Divorce is not out of the question, but it depends on my husband."
Ethan said flatly, "I won't divorce."
"Ethan, with your status, you can have any woman you want. This woman is not good enough for you," Ivy said. "You were originally engaged to the eldest daughter of the White family. How can you marry her!"
The White family?
Ashley was puzzled. Their surname was so similar to hers?
Ethan sneered, "The eldest daughter of the White family disappeared over a decade ago. No one knows if she's dead or alive. Besides, I will never abandon my child and get divorced like you did!"
The eldest daughter of the White family disappeared over a decade ago?
Ashley suddenly understood. No wonder Ethan always looked sad when he mentioned his parents. It turned out his parents divorced early, which is why he insisted on not getting divorced.
"Moreover, you haven't cared about me for over twenty years. What right do you have to control my marriage?"
Ivy shouted angrily, "I don't care. After she gives birth, you must divorce her! I heard the White family has found traces of their eldest daughter. It's settled!. If you marry her, it will greatly benefit your career! And this woman, she can do nothing but spend your money!"
Ethan said coldly, "Enough. If you keep talking nonsense, get out. I don't want to make myself unhappy!"
"You!"
One person had a cold gaze, while the other was filled with anger. They were like fire and water, completely incompatible!
The atmosphere instantly became tense!
Ashley chuckled awkwardly. "Everyone, let's talk this over. There's no rush to discuss the divorce. Let's take a look at the gifts I brought for you all first..."
