Chapter 271 Caleb Prevents Ethan from Donating Blood
Even though Ethan had warned her that the car crash was a total nightmare, Ashley still wanted to check out the surveillance footage to get the full picture.
Diannel pulled up the footage and handed it over to Ashley. As she watched the jaw-dropping scene, her face went ghostly white, "Oh my God."
"Honey, stop watching," Ethan said, seeing how freaked out she was.
But Ashley wasn't having it. She rewound the video and hit play again.
In the replay, you could see Doris and her crew showing up at the gate first, looking like they were chatting about something.
Then Ethan and his gang rolled up. From this angle, you could see Doris spotting Ethan and even waving at him, but he totally missed it.
And then—
A huge truck came barreling straight at Ethan. People scattered like crazy, but Ethan and Doris were just standing there, frozen.
In a split second, Doris practically flew over, her whole body like a human cannonball, shoving Ethan out of the way.
Right after that, the truck slammed into her, pinning her underneath.
Ethan and Ashley watched the video together. Ethan had seen it a bunch of times already. He knew it looked like an accident, but he couldn't shake the feeling that Doris had some kind of agenda.
"Honey, this is terrifying. In such a dangerous situation, anyone would run away, but Ms. Jones risked her life to push you away, and now she's still in emergency surgery," Ashley said, pausing. "Even if she wanted to play tricks, she wouldn't gamble with her own life!"
She added, "Look at the video. If the truck had swerved a bit more, it could have crushed her against the wall, possibly killing her instantly. Who would plot against someone at the cost of their own life?"
Watching the horrifying scene, Ashley was still shaken.
Ethan's eyes darkened, "Maybe this is her ploy. She knew a simple plan wouldn't move me, so she made a big scene. You saw it, my parents were about to reconcile, and she came to stir things up, causing chaos in the Yates family. She's not simple at all!"
He continued, "Besides, she and my mom are rivals in love. It is said rivals are especially hostile when they meet. She should hate her rival's child, so why would she risk her life to save me? This doesn't make sense at all!"
It seemed logical. But...
Ashley said, "Maybe at that moment, she acted on instinct and didn't think about the hatred? Honey, you've been in a high position for too long and are overcomplicating simple things! And the emotional entanglements of the previous generation aren't just one person's fault!"
Ethan squinted, "I don't trust her motives. Why are you sticking up for her?"
Ashley snorted, "I'm just calling it like I see it!"
Their opinions clashed, and the tension between them grew thicker. Just then, a doctor emerged from the operating room.
"Who's here for the patient?" the doctor asked.
Ashley and Ethan exchanged glances. Neither of them was technically family, but Ethan instinctively stepped forward to say something.
Suddenly, a group of people rushed over.
"Is the person in emergency Doris?" a man asked.
"Yeah."
"I'm her father. How is she? Can she be saved?" Two men and a woman arrived, one of them an older man who asked anxiously.
The doctor said, "The patient is experiencing massive bleeding, but unfortunately, our blood bank is running low. Does anyone here have a matching blood type? She's O type."
Everyone fell silent, the tension palpable.
Ethan coldly said, "I'm O type."
Hearing this, the group turned to look at Ethan. A flash of surprise crossed their faces, and the man claiming to be Doris's father showed a hint of panic.
"Then come with me."
Ethan was about to follow when Caleb Jones said, "Wait, you can't donate blood!"
Ethan stopped in his tracks, looking at Caleb in confusion.
Ethan, always the one in control, felt a surge of anger. Why were they refusing his help?
Ashley, puzzled, said, "Sir, Ms. Jones saved Ethan, and they have the same blood type. It's perfect for him to donate blood!"
"In any case, anyone can donate blood except him!" Caleb insisted. "Doctor, please find another solution."
Ethan was fuming. He didn't get why Caleb wouldn't let him donate, but he held back his anger and called a friend, "Get in touch with the blood bank and get O type blood here ASAP."
A few minutes later...
The blood bags arrived, and the doctor started the transfusion for the unconscious Doris. Outside the operating room, besides the Jones family, Ethan and Ashley waited too.
During the wait, Caleb said, "Mr. Yates, thanks for getting the blood here. We can handle it from here. You can go now."
Seeing Ethan's tight-lipped silence, Ashley said, "Caleb, Ms. Jones saved Ethan. We'll wait a bit longer to see how things go."
Just as she finished speaking, the operating room door swung open, and the doctor wheeled out the hospital bed.
Everyone rushed forward.
