Chapter 117 Awkward Mother-Son Relationship
Ivy never thought Ashley was the third daughter of the White family!
It was supposed to be a happy moment, but when she read that Ashley couldn't have kids, her joy disappeared.
Ashley's fancy family background now meant nothing to her. Everyone knew Ashley couldn't have children, and it was a huge embarrassment for the Yates family.
Suddenly, a sneaky idea popped into her head!
"Mom, thanks for visiting. Have a seat."
Ivy nodded, put the flowers and fruit on the bedside table, and said, "Ashley, I didn't know you went through so much. Are you hungry? Let me peel some fruit for you."
Ethan was surprised by Ivy's sudden kindness.
Ashley, feeling awkward, said, "Oh, it's too much trouble for you..."
"No trouble at all. You and Ethan were promised to each other since childhood. After all the ups and downs, you still ended up together. Maybe it's fate."
Ashley looked at Ethan with affection.
Ethan looked back, and they both smiled, making the moment sweet and warm.
Ashley said, "I never thought Ethan and I would be so connected."
Ivy asked, "Ethan, is Ashley really Ms. White? Could there be a mistake?"
Ethan replied confidently, "Definitely. There's no mistake."
A glint appeared in Ivy's eyes. "Really?"
Ashley added, "Last night, Landon, Liam, and I did another DNA test. The report will be out in a few days."
"Oh..." Ivy said, "You've been through so much. Ava shouldn't get away with this."
"Don't mention her, it's bad luck."
Ethan said, "Mom, go home and tell the servants Ashley will be coming back soon. Make sure they take good care of her."
Ivy nodded. "Okay."
Her son had always been distant, and seeing him care so much for Ashley made Ivy feel bitter.
She clenched her fists but smiled and said, "I won't take up more of your time. Be safe on your way back. I'll go inform the servants."
Ethan nodded. "Okay."
"Mom, thank you."
As Ivy got up, Ashley looked at Ethan and said, "Ethan, why don't you walk your mom out?"
Ethan hesitated. He could count on one hand the times he'd been alone with Ivy.
Their relationship had always been strained.
Thinking about seeing her off, Ethan felt both excited and nervous.
Ivy noticed he didn't move and thought he didn't want to see her off, her eyes dimming.
She smiled and said, "No need, I have things to do. I won't bother you anymore."
With that, she turned and left.
Watching her go alone, Ethan felt a pang of sadness, wondering if his mom didn't like him.
Ashley saw his conflicted expression and said, "Ethan, I don't know what happened between you and your mom, but I can tell your relationship is awkward. But you're still family."
Ethan nodded. "What are you getting at?"
Ashley said, "Go see her off. Maybe a kind gesture from you could ease the tension."
Ethan worriedly replied, "You're right, but if I leave, no one will be here with you..."
Ashley smiled gently. "It's just for a bit. What could happen? She hasn't gone far. Go see her off and talk to her."
Ashley's concern warmed Ethan's heart.
"Then you rest. Call the nurse if you need anything. I'll be back soon."
Ashley nodded. If she could, she would have pushed him out. "Hurry up."
Ethan turned and left.
Ashley fell into deep thought; she knew Ethan's parents had divorced early, but she always felt there was some secret causing the family tension.
She planned to investigate secretly, thinking it might help Ethan if she could get them to open up.
After Ivy left the ward, she didn't leave the hospital but went into the examination room.
It was lunchtime, so the hallway was empty, and the examination room was too. Ivy's eyes flashed as she avoided the cameras, found the changing room, and put on a nurse's uniform and mask.
She sneaked into the examination room.
She rummaged around and saw the names Liam, Landon, and Ashley.
A look of triumph flashed in her eyes.
She crouched down, ready to cause trouble. Just then, Ethan walked by the examination room, failing to notice Ivy.
Ivy replaced Ashley's hair follicles with her own, then drew her own blood, labeled it with Ashley's name, and put it back.
Suddenly, someone walked in.
Ivy felt someone approaching, her palms sweating. She quickly hid Ashley's blood and hair follicles in her sleeve.
A doctor came in and asked, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
