Chapter 171 Misunderstanding
Ethan was already fuming over Felicity sneaking into the CEO's office. Her babbling only made him angrier.
He looked downright scary, like a demon from hell.
Felicity was shaking with fear, realizing she'd messed up big time. She quickly hung up the phone she had hidden behind her back.
Ethan's voice was ice-cold. "Ms. Zito, are you trying to get yourself thrown in jail?"
"Mr. Yates, I was just joking. Don't take it seriously. Aunt Ivy asked me to bring you a late-night snack. I just dropped it off in your office without permission. My bad."
She pointed to the lunchbox on the desk, looking all innocent. "Aunt Ivy insisted I come. If I didn't, she'd scold me."
Ethan sneered, "So you're saying my mom's out of line, but you're innocent?"
His eyes were cold, with a hint of menace.
Felicity was trembling, her voice shaky, not knowing what to say.
"I haven't even dealt with you properly for last time, and now you show up again. You're going to regret this!"
Ethan snorted, striding to the desk, searching for something.
Felicity felt guilty, clutching his phone like it was burning her hand.
While Ethan was bent over looking in the cabinet, Felicity quickly deleted the call record from Ashley, put his phone on silent, and hid it under a sofa cushion.
"Mr. Yates, I really didn't mean any harm. What are you looking for? Need help?"
Ethan had been in a meeting but left his phone in the office with crucial data on it. He came back to get it but couldn't find it.
Hearing Felicity, Ethan got an idea. He grabbed her wrist roughly and said coldly, "Did you steal my phone?"
Felicity shook her head frantically, but her eyes were guilty.
"I didn't!"
"You're shameless!"
Ethan held her with one hand and dialed the office phone with the other. "Come to the CEO's office immediately."
"You... what are you doing... I really didn't take your phone. I was just following Auntie's instructions to bring you a snack. Let go of me!"
As Felicity struggled, Diannel knocked and entered. "Mr. Yates, need something?"
He looked surprised to see Felicity.
Ethan ordered, "I think she broke in to steal confidential documents. Take her for questioning!"
Ethan shoved Felicity roughly, almost making her fall.
"Okay," Diannel said, glancing at Felicity but not helping as she steadied herself.
"Ms. Zito, please come with me to the investigation room," Diannel added.
Felicity snorted and followed him out, glancing back at Ethan, who was still searching for his phone. Just then, the phone hidden under the cushion started vibrating. Felicity smirked, feeling her plan had worked.
At the hospital, Ashley had called Ethan countless times with no answer. She had heard his voice earlier, which made her suspicious and conflicted. Her usual cheerful demeanor was gone, replaced by worry.
"Ashley, didn't you say Ethan would never cheat? I knew it, men can't resist temptation!" Sienna said, her words sounding more like mockery.
"Ashley, what are you going to do next?" Sienna asked.
Ashley looked down, feeling dejected. "What can I do? Confront the other woman? I can't even lift my hand. Question him? I'd need someone to push me to see Ethan... I feel so useless right now!"
Sienna hugged her, comforting her. "Don't be sad. I'm here for you. The doctor said you can be treated as an outpatient. Don't go back to the Yates family. Come to Maple Grove Estate."
Ashley thought for a moment and replied, "Okay, let me calm down for a while. I've been having a terrible time lately..."
Meanwhile, Ethan finally found his phone under the sofa cushion. He didn't check his missed calls and rushed back to the meeting room. Later, when he opened his phone to connect the presentation, he saw several missed calls from Ashley.
"Mr. Yates, shall we continue the meeting?" a staff member asked.
Ethan was about to send a message but put his phone aside and said, "Continue the meeting."
Over an hour later, after the meeting, Ethan immediately called Ashley back.
At the hospital, Sienna was helping Ashley with the discharge procedures. Using Ashley's phone to pay the medical bills, she saw Ethan's call coming in. Sienna snorted and muttered, "Scumbag, why are you calling? Do you want to hurt her again?"
With that, she hung up the call.
