Chapter 345 Recreating Panacea
Ashley bumped into someone and quickly apologized in the sing-song Ferndale language, "Oops, sorry about that. My bad."
She wiped her tears, bowed a bit, and said sorry again to the guy.
Ashley kept her head down, trying to hide her teary eyes from everyone around.
The younger guy snapped, "Man, what a day! First, I get bumped into this morning, and now again! Just my luck. Boss, you alright?"
The man who got bumped into adjusted his suit and gave a stern look, "Larsen, if you keep causing trouble, head back to Gold Valley District!"
Gold Valley District in Ferndale?
Ashley glanced up at the man she had bumped into. He looked like he was in his fifties, still handsome with those deep-set eyes. For a second, he reminded her of Ethan!
Taking a deep breath, Ashley tried to calm down.
The man noticed her stepping back, probably thinking Larsen's attitude scared her.
He asked gently, "Miss, you okay?"
Ashley stuttered, "Yeah, I'm fine."
The man chuckled, "You speak Ferndale?"
Ashley nodded, "A bit, yeah."
He nodded back and glanced towards the baby section nearby, "Excuse me."
Realizing she was in the way, Ashley quickly moved aside. The man smiled at her before walking off.
Watching him leave, Ashley couldn't help but wonder how two people could have such similar eyes.
She didn't dwell on it. Heading to the restroom, she thought about telling Ethan. She pulled out her phone, dialed his number, but hung up before it rang.
Then she called Yaakov, "Hey, Yaakov, are you back?"
Yaakov replied, "Yeah, got back yesterday. Is this about the medication? The infertility drug samples are ready and in clinical trials."
Asclepius was always quick with his medical research.
Ashley said, "Thanks, Yaakov, but I'm pregnant."
"What?" Yaakov sounded shocked, "Weren't you diagnosed with infertility? How's that possible?"
Ashley shrugged. "I don't know, but it's confirmed."
After a pause, Yaakov congratulated her, "Well, that's great news. Even if you don't need the medication, it'll help others."
Ashley blushed a bit. "Yaakov, I need your help with something else. My grandma's in the late stages of a terminal illness. Do you have anything that could help?"
Yaakov sighed. "Ashley, if it's late-stage, medication won't do much. You know that better than anyone with your medical background!""Life and death are part of the natural order. You can't change that just because she's family! Plus, you know how swamped I am."
Yaakov added, "And when are you gonna give me those two Panacea pills you owe me?"
Ashley didn't expect Yaakov to turn her down, but thinking it over, she realized she was being impulsive. Asclepius was a busy guy and couldn't solve everyone's problems. Yaakov had already helped her a lot, and she was really grateful.
When Yaakov mentioned 'Panacea,' Ashley's eyes lit up. "I'll get them to you when you have the time."
"I'm tied up with research right now. I'll reach out next month. Make sure you have the medicine ready." Yaakov instructed.
"Got it." Ashley hung up, feeling frustrated. Since Yaakov wasn't willing to help, she'd have to figure it out herself. If she could replicate Panacea, maybe she could cure Katherine's illness!
Panacea was the result of generations of research, capable of curing all diseases and even bringing people back from the brink of death! She believed it could save Katherine!
With this in mind, Ashley set her resolve.
Ashley turned to find Katherine, who had already bought a ton of stuff and had the sales assistant call for a car to take it all back. Ashley asked, "Katherine, did you get everything you needed?"
"Yes, I got everything." Katherine replied.
"Then let's head back. I'll cook something delicious for you." Ashley suggested.
"Okay." Katherine agreed.
As they were about to leave, Ava caught up with them, "Katherine, Ashley, I'm bored eating dinner alone. Can I join you for a meal?" she asked.
Ashley furrowed her brow and curtly responded, "No."
Ava looked surprised, not expecting such a blunt rejection.
Ashley continued, "When George comes back, let him bring you to the Yates family as a guest. We'll extend our hospitality then. But today, we have other things to do. Goodbye!"
With that, she pushed Katherine's wheelchair and left.
Ava watched Ashley's back, her eyes filled with dark malice.
After getting into the car, Katherine remarked, "Ashley, you don't seem to like Ms. Lacey very much?"
Ashley nodded, "Katherine, I think Ms. Lacey seems a bit shady, not like a good person. Because she's George's girlfriend, I talked to her out of respect for George. Otherwise..."
Ashley then snorted, "I would've shown her the door!"
Women have sharp intuition. Ashley was convinced that 'Annie' was not to be trusted and preferred to keep her distance.
Katherine agreed, "George is a man of integrity. I don't know what he sees in such a scheming woman. Ashley, I feel like I've seen her before."
Ashley was taken aback, "Seen her before? Katherine, have you met her?"
Katherine shook her head, "No, I just feel like her eyes look a lot like Ava's!"
At the mention of Ava's name, Ashley's expression changed!
