Chapter 435 Father and Son Meet for the First Time
Upon hearing their conversation, Atticus pulled the car over and asked with concern, "Andy, Nate, are kids bullying you at kindergarten?"
Andy's lip twitched. "Only Nate gets bullied. I just ignore them."
Nate retorted, "You play pranks on anyone who says bad things about Daddy. You even made Angela cry the other day."
Atticus grew concerned hearing this revelation. If Nate hadn't mentioned it accidentally, the adults would have remained in the dark about this situation. School bullying was serious and needed immediate attention.
"Listen, darlings," Atticus said gently. "If anyone bullies you or says you don't have a father, just tell them you do have a father figure. A godfather can fulfill a father's role. And let them know that if anyone bullies you, they'll have me to deal with."
He added firmly, "But you must never scare other children like that again. It's not right."
Andy and Nate exchanged glances, blinking innocently.
The twins then kissed Atticus on each cheek simultaneously. "We understand. You're the best godfather ever."
Atticus smiled, stroking their hair affectionately.
"Godfather," Nate said, "we have a father-child event at school tomorrow. The teacher asked everyone to bring their dads. We were afraid of making Mommy sad, so we didn't tell her. Could you come with us?"
"Of course I can," Atticus replied without hesitation.
He started the car again to drive the children to kindergarten.
Meanwhile, Ethan and Angela were in a luxury car heading to the same kindergarten.
Angela, dressed in an expensive princess outfit that highlighted her beautiful mixed-heritage features, sipped her fresh milk. "This milk doesn't taste good today."
"Just finish it for now," Ethan replied. "We shouldn't waste it. I'll have my assistant change suppliers tomorrow."
Angela nodded. "Okay. By the way, we have a father-child event at kindergarten tomorrow. Daddy's too old for those activities. Could you come instead?"
Ethan gently stroked her hair. "Of course."
They arrived at Sophieland Kindergarten, an elite institution in Gold Valley District attended by children from wealthy and influential families. Andy and Nate, despite their modest background, had secured places there thanks to Atticus's connections and financial sacrifice.
The hope had been to provide them with better education, but instead, the twins had encountered snobbery and elitism from their privileged classmates. They had endured numerous slights without ever telling Ashley or Atticus.
As the luxury car pulled up near the kindergarten, Angela spotted Andy and Nate getting out of their car. "Those are the mean boys!" she exclaimed, pointing at them. "The twins! One of them put a cockroach in my backpack yesterday. I was terrified!"
Ethan looked in the direction she indicated, observing the twins talking with Atticus. Despite the distance, he could clearly see their faces. Something about them stirred an inexplicable warmth and familiarity within him.
His assistant remarked with surprise, "Your Highness, those boys look exactly like you! Anyone would think they're your sons. They're just as handsome!"
Ethan shot him a cold glare. "Keep quiet if you can't speak sensibly."
He examined the twins more closely. Did they really resemble him? They weren't handsome—he was clearly the handsome one!
Ethan took Angela's hand and walked toward Atticus, who was about to enter the school gates. When Atticus saw Ethan—a face he had been looking at in photographs for six years—he froze in shock.
"Are you their father?" Ethan asked coolly, studying Atticus.
Andy and Nate stared up at this tall stranger, shocked by his appearance. Why did they look so much like this cold, handsome man? Such resemblance could only mean one thing—they were either long-lost brothers or father and son!
Could he be their real father?
Atticus was too stunned to respond properly. Ethan frowned, demanding, "Answer me!"
His commanding presence was intimidating.
Atticus finally stammered, "Y-yes..." meaning to add "godfather," but Ethan took his hesitation as confirmation.
"I expect you to control your children," Ethan said sternly. "They've been bullying Angela—putting cockroaches in her backpack. Consider this a verbal warning. If it happens again, there will be consequences."
As he spoke, he glanced at the twins again. Despite their young age, they were undeniably cute and handsome. Though he intended to look stern, his gaze softened involuntarily. That strange feeling of connection grew stronger, along with an unexpected urge to embrace them.
Atticus recovered his composure. "Boys, did you bully her?"
Andy glanced at Angela with disdain and turned away unhappily.
Nate pouted defiantly. "No, we didn't! She and her friends were the ones bullying us! When I got pushed into a mud puddle, she laughed the loudest!"
Ethan turned to Angela in disbelief. "Is that true?"
Angela's lips trembled. "I just went over when I saw other kids yelling at them. When I saw them covered in mud looking like dirty dolls, I couldn't help laughing... I didn't mean to..."
"You might not have called us names," Andy interjected, "but you laughed with everyone else! I put that cockroach in your bag to teach you a lesson! Do it again, and I won't be so nice!"
Ethan was surprised by the little boy's strong character.
He turned to Angela with disappointment. He never expected his beloved sister to behave so unkindly.
Angela began crying pitifully, looking up at Ethan with tearful eyes.
Ethan sighed. He had come intending to reprimand someone else's children, but now discovered his sister was the one at fault.
He knelt down, looking earnestly at Andy and Nate. "Boys, I owe you an apology. I didn't understand the situation properly, and I'm sorry if I frightened you. Please forgive me."
He gently touched their hair to convey his sincerity.
The moment his hand made contact, something like an electric current passed between them. All three felt an inexplicable warmth in their hearts, as if some profound connection had been momentarily awakened.
