Chapter 310 Finding the Key

Samantha hollered, "Yo, Ashley! Where you at? I'll swing by and grab you."

Ashley shot over her location, and Samantha hit her back before speeding over.

"Ashley, hop in!" Samantha, rocking some shades, looked like a total boss.

Ashley slid into the passenger seat. "What's up with the dinner invite? Weren't you supposed to be out with Landon?"

Samantha's grip on the wheel tightened a bit. "We split."

Ashley raised an eyebrow. "Dang, that was quick."

Ashley asked, "Did Landon mess with you? I'll handle him."

Samantha shook her head. "Nah, we agreed to keep it quiet. I was ready for it. Not even sad."

Ashley looked doubtful. "For real? It's cloudy, and those shades ain't helping you see the road."

At a red light, Ashley snatched Samantha's sunglasses.

Samantha yelped, "Ashley! Give 'em back!"

Ashley peered at her. "What's up with your eyes? Been crying?"

Samantha's eyes were puffy. She mumbled, "Just had a rough night, couldn't sleep. Wasn't crying."

Ashley scoffed. "Yeah, right. I told you, feelings are tricky. Look at you, all hurt, and he's my bro."

Ashley stomped her foot. "I'm gonna give him a piece of my mind!"

"Don't!" Samantha grabbed her hand. "Ashley, I'm good. I'm heading abroad soon, so I wanted to hang out. Time will heal this."

Ashley felt bad for her. "Where you headed?"

"Maridia," Samantha replied.

"Well, have a blast and chill out. Keep in touch. As for Landon..." Ashley snorted, "Even if it's not for you, I still gotta deal with him! What a jerk!"

And there's the whole Felicity thing too. She had to sort it all out!

Samantha wanted to argue but saw Ashley's fierce look and knew she meant it, so she let it go.

"Let's roll. My treat today." Samantha started the car. "By the way, why'd you come over here? The nearby university is my old stomping ground. Brings back memories."

Ashley said, "I was checking something out at the university."

Samantha got curious. "Like what?"

Ashley's eyes darkened. "It's a long story. Let's chat over dinner."

"Cool."

They hit up a fancy restaurant nearby and snagged a private room. With no one else around, Ashley spilled the tea to Samantha about Ethan having a secret kid.

Samantha was so stunned she dropped her chopsticks. "Wait, what? Ethan's got a secret kid? And the kid's already four?"

Ashley glanced around. "Shh, keep it down. Good thing we're in a private room. If we were out there, everyone would know by now."

Samantha clapped a hand over her mouth. "Sorry, that just blew my mind."

"Ethan's like the poster boy for perfect husbands. How could he have a secret kid? No way!" Samantha said.

Ashley's eyes darkened. "You can't really blame him for this."

Samantha frowned. "But he still cheated on you."

Ashley sighed. "It happened five years ago. We didn't even know each other back then, so it doesn't count as cheating."

"Even though the paternity test came back positive and he admitted it, I still think something's fishy. That's why I went to the university to dig around." Ashley sighed again. "Spent the whole day and found zilch, but I did find out Yara went to the same school as you guys."

"Yeah?" Samantha asked.

"Yep, you, Yara, Liam, and Ethan all went to the same college!" Ashley nodded.

"But Liam went abroad when he was young. He only studied at Aurora for two years before jetting off again." Samantha rubbed her chin, thinking. "Why do I feel like the four of us are somehow connected?"

Ashley asked, "What kind of connection?"

Samantha grinned. "If this were a soap opera, there'd definitely be a love triangle among the four of us. Ethan, well, he was the cold, aloof academic star in college, so he's out. We can exclude him."

Ashley blinked. "Ethan's out?"

Samantha continued, "Then it would be me, Yara, and Liam! The three of us in a love triangle! But that doesn't make sense. I barely saw Liam in college, and besides, I dated Landon. If I got involved with Liam again, people would roast the storyline! So it must be Yara and Liam."

Ashley rolled her eyes. "I'm being serious, and you're talking soap operas!"

Samantha shrugged.

Suddenly, a light bulb went off in Ashley's head. She remembered how emotional Liam had been during her chat with Yara. It had seemed odd to her at the time!

Ashley's eyes lit up. "Samantha, maybe you're not entirely off base!"

Ashley smiled. "Maybe there's something I've missed!"
