Chapter 240 The First Anniversary

Ivy was about to say something else, but Ethan had already hung up on her.

Her heart dropped. She tried calling him back, but all she got was, "Sorry, the number you have dialed is not reachable."

Feeling like a popped balloon, Ivy turned to James, "What do I do now? My son blocked me."

"He's pissed right now. Trying to reach him will just make it worse," James said.

"But what if he really announces tomorrow that he's cutting ties with me?"

"Uh..." James stuttered, clearly out of ideas.

Ivy was annoyed at James's uselessness, but things were already a mess. If she didn't act fast, the official announcement would come, and she'd be the laughingstock of the Xavier family.

Taking a deep breath, Ivy said, "James, I'm starving. Can you go downstairs and grab me something to eat?"

James didn't think twice, "Sure."

Once James was out of the way, Ivy called Lucas, "Dad, I can't hide it anymore. Ethan found out I put his grandpa in the hospital. Now he wants to cut ties with me. What do I do?"

Lucas was silent for a moment before saying, "You idiot, how'd you let it get this bad?"

Blaming wouldn't help, so Lucas added, "But no matter what, you're still his mom. You messed up this time, so next time, show him you've changed. He'll come around."

"How do I show him?" Ivy asked.

Lucas thought for a bit. "Well, he's been married for a while now. If they have a kid, you'll be a grandma and can take care of the baby. Then you can show him you've changed."

"Why didn't I think of that? Thanks, Dad." After hanging up, Ivy got worried again. "I forgot, Ashley can't have kids."

Thinking for a moment, she remembered Felicity, "I haven't talked to Felicity in ages. I wonder if she's had a check-up. If she's pregnant..."

Feeling a spark of hope, Ivy got ready to find Felicity.

Meanwhile...

Ethan and Ashley were sitting in the car. Ethan was fuming, clearly very angry.

Ashley knew his anger came from having a messed-up mom.

Feeling heartbroken, Ashley wanted to comfort Ethan. Just as she was about to speak, Ethan's phone rang.

It was Diannel. "Mr. Yates, there's a super important project at the company that needs you..."

"Got it." Ethan hung up and said, "I'll drop you off at home first."

"Honey," Ashley said, "If you're busy, I can get home on my own. You should head to the office."

Ethan glanced at her, pursed his lips, and said nothing. Instead, he drove towards the Yates villa.

Ashley sighed. It seemed he was set on taking her home himself.

A few minutes later, the car pulled up at the Yates villa.

Ethan got out and opened the car door for Ashley. "I won't come up. Get some rest."

"Okay." She nodded.

Ashley watched him turn to leave, still radiating a sense of loneliness. Feeling heartbroken, just as Ethan was about to get back in the car, she suddenly hugged him from behind.

Ethan froze.

"Honey, don't be sad. I'll always be with you!" Ashley said gently.

Of all the comforting words, what she said was exactly what Ethan needed to hear.

Ethan turned around, cupped Ashley's face, and looked at her with deep affection, "Were you mad at me earlier?"

Ashley pouted. At first, she was mad, but after hearing the conversation between him and his grandfather, she understood his feelings.

Ashley shook her head. "I'm not mad at you."

Ethan sincerely apologized, "I'm sorry. I was too impulsive earlier. My bad."

Ashley smiled, "I accept your apology."

Ethan gently stroked her hair and kissed her on the lips, "Go rest. I'll come back after working late."

"Okay, I'll wait for you." Ashley watched Ethan drive away before heading upstairs to rest.

Back in the bedroom, after washing up, Ashley lay in bed. It was still early, and she couldn't sleep, so she played on her phone.

She had been busy these past few days and hadn't checked the calendar. She realized that the day after tomorrow was her and Ethan's first wedding anniversary.

Ashley looked back on the past year, remembering how she'd started with such strong dislike for Ethan, only to find herself warming up to him over time. She couldn't help but smile, her face showing a look of happiness.

Since she couldn't sleep, she called her friend Sienna, "Sienna, what are you doing?"

"I just put Lily to sleep. What's up?" Sienna asked.

"Can you come out? I want to talk with you," Ashley replied.

"Sure, send me the address."

After hanging up, they agreed on a time and place. Ashley got ready to leave. Nathan saw Sienna getting ready to go out and asked, "Where are you going so late?"

"Ashley wants to meet up. I'm going to see her," Sienna answered.

Nathan said, "I'll take you."
