Chapter 134 Don't Make Decisions When You're Angry
"Ashley?"
Noticing her slight movement, Ethan softly called her name.
The woman on the bed seemed unwilling to respond, pressing her lips tightly together without any reaction.
Ethan felt a sharp pain in his heart, as if someone was squeezing it. He touched Ashley's face and said hoarsely, "Honey, I know you're awake. Don't ignore me. Let's talk, okay?"
Ethan lowered his head, trying to kiss her forehead.
However, the woman on the bed turned her head away, avoiding his affection.
Ethan was stunned.
Ashley's head snapped to the side, her eyes squeezed shut, brows knotted in a fierce frown. Her lips were a thin, white line, radiating barely contained fury.
Seeing this, Ethan's temper flared up too, and he said coldly, "What do you mean by this?"
Disgusted by him? So she rejected his intimacy?
Ashley felt heartbroken. She opened her eyes, looked coldly at Ethan, and said, "Ethan, you betrayed me first. Besides, I can't have children anymore. There's no future for us. It's better to end it now than to prolong the pain..."
Ashley opened her mouth, and after a long pause, she painfully said, "Let's get a divorce!"
Saying the word 'divorce' seemed to take all her strength. After speaking, Ashley felt an emptiness in her heart, as if she had lost the most important thing in her life!
A look of shock flashed in Ethan's eyes. He then lowered his stance and coaxed her, "Honey, don't be mad. I'll have someone investigate this matter thoroughly. I would never betray you. You know that. I can't follow in my parents' footsteps."
Ashley bit her lip. This usually aloof man was lowering himself to save this marriage. It was a testament to his dedication and the depth of his love.
However, she had to break him heart! She couldn't drag him down!
Ashley felt immense pain but said something against her will, "Ethan, stop wasting your time. I'll notify my lawyer to draft the divorce papers and send them to you. There's no future for us."
"Ashley! Stop mentioning divorce!"
"Ethan, are you afraid of divorce because you love me, or because you're terrified of repeating your parents' mistakes?"
Ashley held back her expectations with this last question, but her face remained cold.
Ethan replied, "I..."
He wanted to say something but didn't know how to express it.
Of course, he cared about her. Otherwise, why would he lower himself to save this marriage? But...
It was said that in a relationship, the one who confessed love first would be controlled by the other.
Ethan hesitated for a moment.
But his hesitation made Ashley think he didn't love her at all.
He pampered her only because she was his wife!
A look of disappointment flashed in Ashley's eyes. Just as Ethan was about to say something, Ashley interrupted, "I guess you don't love me. You're just trying to avoid becoming a joke!"
"I'll have the divorce papers sent to you by my lawyer."
Ethan's face turned pale, and he looked at her in shock. "Are you serious?"
Ashley stared into his eyes, her gaze unwavering. "Yes, I'm very serious."
Ethan pressed his lips tightly together, veins bulging on his forehead. He clenched his fists, suppressing his overwhelming anger.
After a long pause, he squeezed out a cold voice. "Fine, let's divorce."
Ethan, furious, turned and slammed the door as he left.
After he walked away, Ashley couldn't hold back and burst into tears. "Ethan, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to reject you. I just..."
She had made such a resolute decision, yet it tortured her to the core.
Samantha and May, who were waiting outside, saw Ethan storm out with a livid face and heard Ashley's sobbing. They were terrified and rushed into the room to check on Ashley.
"Ashley, what happened? Did you two have a fight?"
Ashley was crying her heart out. Samantha, seeing her like this for the first time, felt heartbroken and quickly grabbed tissues to wipe her tears.
"Why are you crying like this? Did Ethan bully you?"
Ashley shook her head, sobbing, "No, I bullied him."
"Ashley, you're crying your heart out, and you're still defending him? Did you fight because of what happened last night? I'll go find evidence right now!"
"No, don't go." Ashley said, "I know this was a setup. I went along with it to push Ethan away because..."
Ashley said sadly, "I can't have children. I don't want to hold him back."
"This..."
Samantha and May exchanged glances.
"Ashley, don't be sad. You still have us."
The three women hugged each other. Despite her sadness, Ashley felt the warmth from her friends.
Ashley cried and laughed. "It's so good to have you..."
The Yates family.
Ethan stormed back home. As soon as Felicity saw him, she approached. "Mr. Yates, you're back. I made dinner for you. Come and eat."
Ethan angrily said, "Didn't you want me to divorce Ashley and marry you?"
Felicity was stunned, looking at him in shock. "What?"
Ethan sneered, "Fine, I agree!"
