Chapter 557 The Adorable and Playful Ethan

"Ethan, I made this porridge myself. Let me feed you," Ashley said tenderly.

"It's delicious," he replied, savoring each spoonful.

For two weeks now, Ethan had been recovering in the hospital. They were staying in a luxurious VIP suite complete with a kitchen, bathroom, and sitting area. Ashley had moved in to care for him properly.

Ashley's brothers, along with their children, Doris, Garrett, and Angela, visited daily. During these family gatherings, Ashley often stood silently to the side, sensing that Doris was still upset and wanted her gone. Ashley chose to ignore these tensions. No matter how much Doris might want her to leave, she wouldn't abandon Ethan.

"Pearl, you seem distracted while feeding me. Is something on your mind?" Ethan asked.

"My only wish is for you to recover quickly," she replied softly.

"But I am getting better," Ethan said between bites. "The doctors say I'm healing remarkably fast. Try not to worry so much. I've been cooped up in this room for over two weeks—I'd love to get some fresh air today."

"Of course. After you finish eating, I'll help you into the wheelchair and take you outside."

After their simple breakfast, Ashley sorted out his medication and handed him the pills. "Ethan, take these, and then we'll go out for some air."

The doctor had prescribed eight different medications, each bottle requiring two pills per dose. Strangely, all the labels had been removed from the bottles, which Ashley found puzzling.

"Ethan, why are all the labels removed from your medication? We can't see any information about them. Are you sure they're legitimate?"

Ethan averted his eyes. "Pearl, this is the largest hospital in Gold Valley District. They wouldn't dispense counterfeit medication. You're overthinking it."

Was she? Ashley frowned thoughtfully. She couldn't shake the feeling that Ethan was keeping something from her.

After swallowing his handful of pills, Ethan said, "Let's go outside now."

"Alright." Ashley grabbed a light blanket and draped it over his legs. "It's autumn now, and the air gets chilly. The doctor said you can't risk catching cold for the next six months."

Ethan watched Ashley's attentive care with profound happiness, wishing they could remain this blissful forever. Yet he sensed something was troubling her, though she wouldn't say what.

With mixed emotions, he pulled her onto his lap. "Pearl, let me hold you."

Before she could respond, he embraced her tightly and captured her lips with his. Ashley gently pushed against his chest, worried about his stitches.

"Ethan... don't..."

Ignoring her protests, he caught her hand with one of his while supporting her back with the other, kissing her deeply and passionately.

When they finally separated several minutes later, Ashley saw the desire in his eyes and even felt his physical response. She rubbed his back soothingly but admonished him, "Ethan, have you forgotten the doctor's warnings? No strenuous activity for six months—not even emotional excitement. If you keep this up, I'll have to keep my distance."

"Pearl, don't be like that," he pleaded. "I'm a normal man. How am I supposed to go six months without touching you?"

"We don't have a choice," she insisted. "We'll just have to wait."

"Six months is torture. At least give me a kiss or I won't forgive you," he pouted like a sad puppy.

Ashley gave him a mock glare before placing a quick kiss on his cheek. "Satisfied now?"

"Not even close. I want..."

"Stop it!" Ashley blushed furiously. "Do you still want to go for that walk or not?"

She had been accommodating his every wish these past weeks, but certain boundaries couldn't be crossed. She feared any heightened excitement might cause serious complications.

"Fine," he said with diminished enthusiasm. "Let's go."

Ethan needed the wheelchair because his heart transplant surgery required limited physical activity for at least three more months until his next checkup.

Ashley pushed him through the hospital gardens. Golden autumn sunlight bathed them in a warm glow, creating a picturesque scene.

From a distance, a young woman and a nurse observed them.

"Hospital policy forbids me from sharing patient information," the nurse told the woman. "But seeing how devoted you are, I made an exception."

She pointed toward Ethan. "That's him—the man who received your boyfriend's heart."
