Chapter 128 Departure
In the middle of the chaos, Ashley calmly agreed to Ivy's proposal. Everyone was shocked, especially Ivy, who thought Ashley would fight back.
Ivy grinned, "Ashley, you said it yourself. Don't back out now!"
Ethan was stunned. "Ashley, do you know what you're saying? I've never changed my mind. Why are you giving in?"
Wasn't she the one who liked him first? Why give up so easily? Maybe her feelings weren't that deep after all.
He didn't know when it started, but everything about Ashley had become a part of him. He never asked himself if he liked her.
But thinking her love for him wasn't deep made him inexplicably sad.
He believed she was his wife and pampering her was his duty. Love didn't matter.
But why did she give up first? Did she not like him anymore, or was it because of last night?
Ethan felt a thorn in his heart, his emotions tangled.
Everyone else was shocked, except Felicity, who played with her fingers indifferently.
Ashley said calmly, "I agree, but I have conditions."
Ivy asked, "What conditions?"
"First, take Ms. Zito to the hospital for a check-up. If she has Ethan's semen, the Yates family will discuss it with the Zito family."
"If she gets pregnant, I'll agree to the divorce."
"Ashley! You still don't trust me!"
Ethan's eyes were a mix of astonishment and disappointment, his voice turning cold.
Seeing his disappointment, Ashley lowered her head, feeling guilty.
How could she not trust him? She just felt useless because she couldn't have children. Even if Ethan didn't mind now, constant judgment would wear anyone down.
A childless couple would face significant problems.
Ethan didn't understand her inferiority complex; he only felt she didn't love him enough, which upset him.
Ivy said, "Fine, you said it. I'll take Felicity to the hospital now. If it's confirmed and she gets pregnant, you'll sign the divorce papers!"
Felicity's eyes flickered.
"Take her for the check-up first, then we'll talk."
Ivy snorted, took Felicity's arm, and said, "Felicity, don't be afraid. I'll take you to the hospital."
They left together.
The hall became awkward.
Ethan's face was livid, his whole body cold. Ashley lowered her eyes, not daring to meet his gaze.
"Ashley, it's inconvenient for you to stay with the Yates family. Come back to the White family with us."
Ashley glanced at Ethan. He was silent and cold. She thought she had angered him and felt guilty but nodded. "Okay."
Ethan looked at her in astonishment. "Are you planning to leave me?"
Ashley opened her mouth. She never thought of leaving him, but...
She didn't know how to tell him it wasn't his fault, but that she felt herself not good enough for him.
Ashley stayed silent, and Ethan took it as agreement.
He sneered, "Fine, it's your choice. I hope you won't regret it."
He was furious, got up, and left. After a few steps, he said angrily, "If you walk out that door, don't come back!"
Ashley bit her lip, her heart aching. He had never been so harsh, not even when they first met.
It seemed she had really disappointed him this time.
Ashley sighed; maybe this was for the best. She couldn't bear to see others judge him for being childless.
She had no choice. Ashley's mind was in turmoil.
Samantha stepped forward and asked, "Ashley, are you sure you want to leave?"
Ashley nodded, looking apologetic. "Samantha, I'm sorry. I called you to the Yates family yesterday. I didn't expect it would end up like this. How are you feeling? Do you need to go to the hospital?"
Samantha scratched her head, looking confused. "I did wake up next to Landon, but strangely, I don't feel any discomfort..."
