Chapter 398 Temporary Replacement
George stared at the documents in front of him with astonishment.
He picked them up and flipped through them, his expression darkening with each page, his eyes filled with disbelief.
Ethan took out his phone and showed him the surveillance footage. "After you've finished with those papers, take a look at this video."
George's face grew even more troubled after watching the recording. "Is that Hawk in the video? The one who disappeared years ago?"
"Exactly."
"He's had plastic surgery, changed his name... Does this have something to do with my father's death?"
"What do you think?" Ethan countered, studying George with searching eyes. George's expression was complicated, and he remained silent for a long time.
The atmosphere grew tense.
Finally, George murmured, "Why would he change his appearance and name? Did he do something he needed to hide, which is why he..."
He left the sentence unfinished, but Ethan could guess what he was thinking.
Ethan began, "Back then, the main contenders for the Yates family inheritance were your father and my father, while Hawk was the overlooked one," Ethan said. "Is it possible that he orchestrated everything? Trying to get rid of me and your father, then frame my father for it!"
Ethan gave a cold smile. "Quite the elaborate scheme."
George looked puzzled. "But if he was behind it all, why go through plastic surgery and change his name? Wouldn't it have been better for him to stay with the Yates family?"
"That's precisely what confuses me as well," Ethan replied.
After a pause, he added, "We'll find out the truth when we confront him tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?" George asked, surprised.
Ethan smiled coldly but changed the subject. "Who was it that poisoned your minds against my dad back then?"
George's face showed conflicting emotions before he reluctantly answered, "A relative of mine. We're not blood-related, but he took good care of my mother and me."
"A relative?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Would his name happen to be Tony?"
George looked at him in shock. "You know him?"
Ethan suddenly smiled. "I think I'm starting to see the bigger picture."
His words carried significant weight, and George seemed to grasp their implications, his expression darkening considerably.
Checking the time, Ethan said, "George, let's make a deal."
George looked at him questioningly. "What kind of deal?"
"I'll help you uncover the truth about Jimmy's death. In return, I want you to attend the press conference tomorrow and personally expose Josselin's criminal activities."
George remained silent for a long while.
He had brought Josselin in himself and knew full well about the man's ruthless ambitions. His initial intention wasn't to let anyone take over the Yates Group, but rather to seek justice for Jimmy.
If the truth wasn't what he believed it to be, then everything needed to be reinvestigated. And as a member of the Yates bloodline, he couldn't allow outsiders to seize control of the family business.
With a solemn expression, George finally said, "Alright, I accept."
Ethan smiled slightly. "Tomorrow at three PM. George, don't let me down this time."
With that, Ethan grabbed his coat and left, while George stared thoughtfully at his retreating figure.
The next day, Ethan woke up in the rest area of the Yates Group office. After changing into a fresh suit, he headed to his office.
No sooner had he sat down than there was a knock at the door.
Without looking up, Ethan called, "Come in."
Diannel entered. "Mr. Yates, the press conference at three PM is all set. Here are the materials you requested."
She placed several stacks of documents on the desk.
"Excellent," Ethan replied.
"Mr. Yates, there's one more thing. Regarding Evil Spirit—we've contacted her, but she's reluctant to meet in person."
Ethan's hand paused briefly as he was flipping through the documents. "That's fine. We'll put that matter on hold until after today's press conference."
"Very well."
Diannel withdrew.
The documents she had brought contained information about the four business partners' private affairs and recent call records. Diannel had been thorough, even monitoring their phone calls and gathering crucial evidence.
Listening to the incriminating recordings, Ethan smiled coldly, confident about the upcoming conference.
Time flew by, and at three PM, Ethan took his place at the main table of the press conference.
As soon as he appeared, journalists began snapping photos frantically.
Ready to begin, Ethan nodded to the PR host.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the host announced, "today's press conference is to announce the signing of the third round of financing between the Yates Group and our four business partners. Allow me to introduce our partners to the media."
After the introductions were complete, the previously smiling business partners looked bewildered.
"Wait a minute, you must have our names wrong!" one exclaimed.
"Exactly, none of us have any connection to those names! You've made a mistake!" another protested.
Facing their shock, Ethan calmly replied, "There's no mistake. I've been considering entirely different partners all along—not you."
