Chapter 32 A Sudden Confession
"Chris, you've never pushed me like this!"
Every time Ashley thought of Chris, it felt like her heart was being clawed by a cat. But now, his behavior scared her.
When Chris tried to hug her again, she instinctively pushed him away.
"Chris, it was Jasper who broke us up back then. But it's been years. I'm married now, and I'm pregnant with someone else's child. We can't go back!"
"That's impossible, Ashley. You're lying. You blame me for not holding on back then. You're mad at me, aren't you?"
Chris didn't believe her and grabbed her arm.
Seeing him so frantic, Ashley felt bad, but she knew she couldn't get involved with her ex-boyfriend as a married woman.
"Chris, you're scaring me! You weren't like this before!"
Ashley was frightened and kept backing away.
He used to be a cheerful guy; how did he become like this?
Chris pressed forward. "Ashley, let's go home and talk, okay?"
Chris tried to grab her, but suddenly, a dog's barking came from a distance.
"Woof woof woof!"
Buddy stood protectively in front of Ashley, barking furiously at Chris, ready to attack if he came any closer.
"Buddy!"
Alex caught up and shielded Ashley behind him, asking, "Ms. Wilson, are you okay?"
Ashley shook her head, "I'm fine."
Chris's eyes flashed with malice as he looked at the dog, and his gaze towards Alex was filled with hostility. Sensing his emotions, Ashley felt even worse and decided to talk to him properly.
"Chris, it's too late today. Please go home first. I'll contact you tomorrow to talk things through, okay?"
Chris saw her eyes soften a bit. "Alright, I'll wait for your call."
He cast a cold glance at Alex and Buddy before turning to leave.
It wasn't until he walked away that Ashley breathed a sigh of relief, but she couldn't stop the cold sweat from running down her back.
"Ms. Wilson, do you know that man?"
Ashley nodded. "Yes, I knew him before."
Now, he seemed like someone she didn't recognize.
"Thank you for earlier."
Ashley squatted down and gently petted the dog's fur.
"Awwooo~"
The dog wagged its tail in enjoyment.
"Ms. Wilson, it's getting late. For safety, let me walk you home."
Alex smiled warmly, like the winter sun.
His gentle smile calmed Ashley's frightened heart.
Ashley nodded. "Thank you. My house is just here. It's too late today; I'll treat you to coffee another day."
"Alright, another day then!"
Alex watched Ashley enter her house before leaving with the dog.
Ashley returned home, turned on all the lights, and closed all the windows before feeling safe enough to wash up.
Chris stood outside Ashley's door, staring at the lit windows of the house, deep in thought.
Liam heard some noise outside and peeked out to find a man spying on the house across the street. Knowing a young woman lived there, he felt concerned and contacted security to have Chris removed.
That night, Ashley tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep, wondering what had caused a once cheerful boy to become like this...
Ethan worked late at the office and didn't come home until three in the morning.
"Mr. Yates, you're back? You wouldn't believe it, but a single girl lives across the street, and earlier she was being watched by a creep. Luckily, I noticed something was off and called security to chase him away. Otherwise, who knows what could have happened to her!" Ethan was exhausted and didn't really listen to Liam's rambling, "Liam, you're getting old. You don't need to stay up at night anymore."
"Alright, fine."
"And stop meddling in other people's business. Go rest now. Tomorrow, pack up; Mrs. Yates and I are going to the old house."
Mrs. Yates?
Liam was stunned. When did Mr. Yates get married?
