Chapter 357 Overheard While Making a Call
Upon hearing this, Ashley looked at Liam and happened to see Yara walking towards them. However, Liam's eyes revealed a restrained concern for Yara.
Ashley gently stroked Nora's hair and said softly, "Nora, don't think like that. Your dad loves you very much."
"Really?" Nore pondered. "Then why does Dad always make Mom cry?"
Ashley replied, "Maybe there's some misunderstanding between them. Such issues can be resolved."
Nora inquired, "Ashley, you're the smartest. Do you have any idea how to stop them from fighting?"
Ashley pondered for a moment, a sly glint flashing in her eyes. "I have a plan."
Nora asked eagerly, "What should we do?"
Whispering in her ear, Ashley's suggestion left Nora wide-eyed and speechless.
"Ashley, Nora, what are you two talking about?" Yara interrupted.
Ashley and Nora, feeling guilty, immediately distanced themselves. Yara, unaware of the exchange, suggested, "I've prepared some fruit. Let's go have some."
"Sure."
The three of them walked towards the living room. Ashley gave Nora a look; 'Your parents' happiness depends on you!'
Just as Ashley reached the door, she received a call from Ethan.
To avoid complications, she found a corner to answer the call. "Hello."
"Honey, are you still at the White mansion?" Ethan's voice came through the phone.
Ashley replied, "Yes."
"I'll come pick you up and take you home." Ethan insisted.
Ashley explained, "No, we have to keep up the act. If I don't stay separated from you, how will they believe us? I'll stay at the White mansion for a few days."
Ethan's tone turned slightly pleading, "Honey, I haven't had dinner yet. I can't eat food made by others. I miss having you at home."
With a soft chuckle, Ashley reassured him, "I've already prepared something for you in the fridge. Just heat it up and you can eat."
Ethan persisted, "Then come home tonight. I can't sleep without you."
"Honey," Ashley coaxed softly, "you have to think of the bigger picture. I'll video call you later, okay?"
Ethan's voice softened, "That's more like it."
"In that case, I'll end the call now." Ashley said.
"Okay." Ethan's tone satisfied.
They hung up, and a sweet smile graced Ashley's lips as she glanced at her phone. When she turned around, she saw Felicity standing in a corner with a sinister expression.
"Were you listening, Felicity?" Ashley asked cautiously, her voice tinged with wariness. "How long have you been there?"
Felicity's gaze wasn't on Ashley but on Landon in the living room, her loose maternity dress revealing a hint of her growing belly.
Ignoring Ashley's question, Felicity finally met her eyes. "I'm not interested in your business. You don't need to be so guarded." she remarked before turning to leave.
Ashley frowned. Felicity must have overheard her conversation with Ethan. This woman was more complex than she had initially thought. If Felicity told anyone, all their efforts would be in vain.
Landon came out to call Ashley and saw Felicity walking away. He frowned in annoyance. "Ashley, did Felicity do something to upset you?"
Ashley shook her head and replied, "Landon, can you do me a favor? Have someone keep an eye on Felicity for the next few days. Don't let her leave the White mansion."
As long as Felicity's freedom was monitored, she wouldn't be able to betray Ashley.
"And it's best to take away Felicity's communication devices," Ashley suggestednervously. "I think she overheard my phone conversation. We can't afford any slip-ups."
Though puzzled by the request, Landon agreed. "Okay, you go inside. Try to avoid Felicity, and be cautious of her intentions."
"Got it." Ashley acknowledged.
They went inside, and the family chatted while eating fruit, savoring the tranquility of their peaceful and contented family life.
At night, everyone went to their respective rooms to rest. Before leaving, Ashley gave Nora a meaningful look before returning to her room.
As soon as she entered, Ethan's video call came through.
Ashley answered, "Honey, why did you call so soon? Did you have dinner?"
"Yes," Ethan replied, taking out the necklace Ashley had gifted him today. "I want you to put this necklace on me when you come back."
"Sure," Ashley responded tenderly, then her expression turned serious. "By the way, honey, when we were conversing earlier, I noticed Felicity lurking behind me at one point. She looked really scary. Do you think she overheard us and will divulge our plan?"
"We didn't mention anything crucial on the phone. To avoid trouble, just be cautious around her." Ethan suggested.
Ashley nodded. "I've already asked Landon to keep Felicity under control. Don't call me during the day anymore. If someone overhears, all our efforts will be wasted."
Ethan's countenance fell. "Then at night, after you go to your room, lock the door, and I'll video call you. Is that okay?"
Ashley assented. "Of course, that's fine."
Ethan finally felt satisfied. "That's more like it. Don't hang up the video call. I need to hear your breathing to fall asleep." he requested mischievously.
