Chapter 314 Is Ashley Pregnant?
Ashley sprawled out on the bed, half-asleep and groggy. If Mia hadn't come in to wake her, she probably would've slept through the night.
Mia looked worried. "Hayes, are you okay? You've been sleeping all afternoon. How are you gonna sleep tonight?"
Ashley mumbled, "Mom, I'm fine. Just got a bit of a cold and feel wiped out. I just wanna sleep."
Mia sighed, "I had someone get some medicine for you. Get up and eat something first, then take the medicine before you go back to bed."
Ashley thought for a second and then nodded, "Alright."
She took Mia's hand and said softly, "Mom, what do you want for dinner? I'll cook for you."
Mia squeezed her hand. "You're sick. No way I'm letting you cook. I'll have the maid do it. Just keep me company in the living room and watch some TV, okay?"
"Okay," Ashley agreed.
They moved to the living room sofa while the maid got busy in the kitchen. The TV was blaring the latest hit family drama.
Ashley wasn't into these over-the-top shows, so she started peeling an apple for Mia instead.
Mia's eyesight wasn't great, so she couldn't see the TV well, but the storyline was enough to get her riled up.
"This woman is awful! She actually stole the heroine's husband. Hayes, can you see if she looks as evil as she sounds?" Mia asked.
Ashley laughed, "Mom, it's just a TV show. Don't mix up the character with the actor."
She finished peeling the apple and handed it to Mia. "Here, Mom, have some fruit."
Mia ate a few pieces and then said, "Hayes, you should eat some too."
After sleeping all afternoon, Ashley was pretty hungry. She started munching on the apple, and Mia's voice cut through, "Hayes, I heard from Liam that your husband is rich and handsome, the dream guy for many women. With such a catch, you should keep an eye on him. Otherwise, some other woman might try to snatch him away!"
Ashley chuckled, "Mom, Ethan's not the lead in some drama. He won't be easily swayed. Don't you trust me?"
Mia replied, "Of course, I trust you. But just in case, I think you and Ethan shouldn't live apart. If he goes on a business trip, you should go with him to avoid any unnecessary drama!"
Ashley raised an eyebrow, "If two people are together all the time, it gets boring. Sometimes, a little distance makes the reunion sweeter."
Mia sighed, "I can't win with you. Always defending your husband! Feels like I don't matter to you at all!"
Ashley hugged Mia's arm and said playfully, "Mom, you know I love you too. You're the best mom ever."
"You're too sweet," Mia smiled.
Even though Ashley and Mia had only met a few days ago, they had already grown close, with no awkwardness between them.
"Mrs. White, Ms. White, dinner is ready," a servant announced.
"Hayes, let's go eat."
Ashley took Mia's hand and led her to the dining room. "Mom, aren't we waiting for Landon and Liam?"
Mia shook her head. "They're busy at the company. They probably won't make it back for dinner. Let's eat first."
Ashley nodded and helped Mia sit down before taking her own seat. The table was loaded with dishes. Ashley served Mia a slice of the roast beef.
Mia felt so grateful. Her long-lost daughter was back, and Ashley was not only talented in medicine but also very caring.
Feeling hungry, Ashley helped herself to some salad and started eating.
"Hayes, what are you eating?" Mia asked.
"Just some greens," Ashley replied.
Mia frowned. "You're so thin. You need to eat more protein."
Mia tried to serve Ashley some roast beef, but her blurry vision made her spill food everywhere.
"Mom, let me do it." Ashley served Mia some salad and roast beef. "Just tell me what you want, and I'll get it for you."
Mia insisted, "Don't just worry about me, Hayes. You need to eat more protein too."
Ashley sighed and reluctantly picked up a piece of beef. She took a bite and suddenly felt nauseous. Covering her mouth, she ran to the bathroom to vomit.
"What's happening?" Mia looked shocked.
The maid said, "Mrs. White, Ms. White seems unwell and is vomiting in the bathroom."
Mia asked worriedly, "Is she vomiting badly?"
The maid replied, "Quite badly."
Mia said, "Prepare some medicine for her."
Supported by the maid, Mia went to the bathroom and heard Ashley vomiting. Her heart ached.
Over the past few days, she had noticed that Ashley seemed healthy. Why was she suddenly vomiting like this?
A thought suddenly popped into Mia's mind.
Emotionally agitated, Mia said, "Hayes, do you have a cold, or are you pregnant?"
This reaction was obvious to anyone with experience.
Ashley, who was still vomiting, froze. She quickly rinsed her mouth and said, "Mom, you forgot, I'm infertile.. How could I be pregnant? It must be the cold!"
