Chapter 231 The Jealous Maniac
"Honey, why you coughing? You catching a cold or something?"
"Nah, my throat's just dry. Need some water."
"I'll grab it for you."
Ethan took the glass from Ashley and headed to the side room for some warm water. Yaakov raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why'd you send Ethan away like that?"
Once Ethan was out of earshot, Ashley said, "He doesn't know I can do medical stuff. Keep it on the down-low."
Yaakov chuckled, "What's in it for me to keep your secret?"
Ashley shot him a look, "The Panacea William gave me two years ago, I'll give you two doses."
Yaakov's eyes lit up at the mention of Panacea.
He'd been begging William for that miracle cure for years, but William gave it to Ashley instead. He was so jealous back then. Now, thinking about getting those two doses, Yaakov was stoked.
"Alright, I'll keep your secret..."
"Keep what?"
Ethan walked back in with the water, catching the tail end of their conversation.
Yaakov straightened up, "Nothing. I have a business trip at the end of the month. Try to schedule two therapy sessions for her this month. We'll continue when I get back."
Ethan didn't suspect a thing, "Alright, Asclepius, thanks."
To show his gratitude, Ethan handed Yaakov a card, "This card's got $500,000 on it. Thanks for helping Ashley so much."
Yaakov glanced at Ashley.
$500,000?
Damn, he was generous!
"Then I won't be shy about it."
Ethan added, "Asclepius, about the chief judge spot for the next medical conference, I hope you'll reconsider. We can talk money."
Ashley chuckled, "It's on the house. We're friends. Yaakov, you wouldn't turn down a friend's request, right?"
Ashley gave Yaakov a look that said she wasn't messing around.
Yaakov was cornered.
Ashley sure knew how to twist his arm.
His appearance fee was at least a million bucks, and now it was all gone.
But thinking about getting the Panacea, Yaakov felt better. Panacea was priceless, and attending the conference was just repaying a favor to Ashley.
Yaakov sighed, "Since Ashley insists, I'll go."
"Really?"
Ethan was pumped.
"Of course, I never joke."
"Have the relevant person contact my assistant about the conference." Yaakov checked the time, "I should get going."
"Wait up, we'll head out together."
"Alright."
The three of them quickly got their stuff together. Ashley was drenched in sweat from the therapy session, her clothes sticking to her. Ethan took off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
Outside, in a corner—
"Why aren't they out yet?"
"They've been in there for hours. Shouldn't there have been some drama by now? Why's it so quiet..."
Just then, the door of room 5188 swung open, and the three of them walked out, chatting and laughing, totally not what anyone expected.
"No way, Ethan stormed in. Wasn't he supposed to catch them in the act? Why's he all buddy-buddy with his rival?"
"Who cares, just snap some pics for evidence. We'll never get the rich folks' world..."
The three left the hotel. Ethan and Ashley hopped into the car and headed back to the Yates villa.
Ashley yawned, "I just got off the plane, haven't even adjusted to the time difference, and all this happens."
Seeing her about to doze off, Ethan said, "Don't sleep yet, you'll catch a cold. Change your clothes when we get home, then you can crash."
"Okay."
During the drive, Ethan couldn't shake off Chris's words. He glanced at the ring on Ashley's finger, feeling more and more irritated.
With a sudden screech, Ethan changed direction.
"Why'd you suddenly turn?"
Ethan's face was stern, eyes cold. The car sped up, making Ashley feel like they were in a high-speed chase.
"Honey, what are you doing!"
Finally, the car stopped in front of a jewelry store.
"Wait here!"
Ethan got out with a cold expression, leaving Ashley confused.
Ashley shrugged, muttering, "What's his deal? Why's he mad all of a sudden? Didn't we clear up everything about Yaakov?"
About half an hour later.
Ethan came back with two bags, looking very determined. "Change your clothes first."
"Here?"
"The windows are tinted. No one can see inside."
"Okay..."
Ashley still thought it was weird, but she was uncomfortable in her wet clothes. So, she changed in the passenger seat. During the process, Ethan caught glimpses of her, and his eyes grew darker.
Driving to a secluded scenic area, Ethan suddenly grabbed Ashley's hand and yanked off her wedding ring.
The next moment, Ethan chucked the rings out the window.
Ashley gasped, "Honey, are you nuts? Why'd you throw away our wedding rings!"
