Chapter 305 Ask Yara for Clarification
After chatting with Samantha, Ashley figured out that Samantha and Landon were an item, so she couldn't find the right moment to spill the beans about Felicity being pregnant.
Landon headed to work, and Samantha had her own gig, so they both bounced one after the other.
For a bit, Ashley had the whole big mansion to herself.
The second she got nothing to do, she started thinking about all the crappy stuff, and her mood tanks.
Her phone buzzed, and Ashley saw it was Ethan calling. Just thinking about Yara made her mood nosedive.
She ignored the call and tossed the phone on the table.
Ethan kept calling, but Ashley wasn't having it.
Then, a message popped up on her Facebook.
Ashley opened it and saw Ethan's message: [Babe, why aren't you picking up? Just got off the plane. How's it going at the White's?]
Reading his text, it felt like he was right there, whispering sweet nothings. But that paternity test report was no joke. Ashley felt the sadness hit her again.
She picked up her phone and typed: [Ethan, you got another woman on the side?]
She deleted it and typed: [Ethan, you jerk, did you knock someone else up?]
She deleted that too and typed: [Ethan, did you know Yara had your kid?]
No matter how she worded it, it didn't feel right. Ashley put down the phone, feeling like a popped balloon, covered her face, and cried quietly.
Ethan was confused. Ashley wasn't picking up or replying. He saw her status showing "typing" for over ten minutes, but no message came through.
Ethan decided to make a video call.
Seeing the call, Ashley wanted to reject it, but her hand slipped, and she accidentally answered.
Ashley freaked out, quickly moved the phone away, and wiped her tears in a hurry.
In the video, Ethan's handsome face filled the screen, "Babe, why aren't you picking up or replying?"
Ashley held the phone to show just half her face and said, "I'm busy."
Ethan seemed to be walking. Hearing her icy tone, he paused and joked, "Really? What’s got you so busy you can't even talk to your hubby?"
Ashley's heart ached, "Do you have something to say? If not, I'm out."
Ethan didn't expect her to be so cold and was taken aback, "Babe, I don't have anything specific. I just miss you. Do you miss me?"
Ashley replied coldly, "Then I'm hanging up."
Without waiting for Ethan's response, she hung up right away. The next second, it felt like her heart was getting shredded, and she could barely breathe from the pain. Ashley covered her mouth and bolted to her room with her phone.
Liam walked by but she didn't even notice.
Liam thought, 'What's up with Ashley? Why's she crying? Did she and Ethan have a fight?' Ashley got to her room, locked herself in, turned on the faucet, and finally let herself cry out loud...
Ethan stared at the disconnected call, totally confused.
What the heck was going on?
He'd just been on a business trip, and Ashley was acting so cold all of a sudden. She'd never talked to him like that before!
Did something happen?
For a moment, Ethan panicked and felt like he needed to get to Ashley ASAP.
"Mr. Yates," Nick said, "the car's here. We should go."
Ethan snapped back to reality. He felt this weird sense of unease, but he had work to do. He got in the car.
In the car, Ethan was lost in thought. Nick misunderstood and said, "Mr. Yates, there was a big argument at the board meeting today, still about the second round of financing for the central area."
He went on, "Director Diannel found some important clues in Maridia. These need to be checked out. If we wait a bit, we can figure it out. Don't worry."
Nick thought Ethan was stressing about the financing issue.
Ethan chuckled lightly, "It's fine."
Nick kept going, "And for our other project in Miren, tonight's appointment is..."
Nick kept talking about work stuff, but Ethan wasn't hearing any of it. His mind was stuck on Ashley's sudden coldness, making him super uneasy.
Time flew by, and it was evening.
Ashley had cried it out in the bathroom and pulled herself together. She decided to dig into the whole illegitimate child thing.
When she came out of her room, Liam was pacing outside, looking worried.
"Liam, what's up?" she asked.
"Ashley, I should be asking you that. Why'd you lock yourself in the room for so long? Why are your eyes all puffy? Have you been crying?" Liam was concerned.
Ashley turned her face away and said, "Liam, can you come with me somewhere?"
"Sure."
Ashley and Liam drove off. She'd found out Yara's address and told Liam to head to Yara's neighborhood.
Liam looked uneasy, "Ashley, why are you looking for Yara?"
Ashley's eyes darkened, and she said coldly, "I want to ask her about what happened back then, face to face!"
