Chapter 572 Ethan Takes Action to Remove Public Opinion

"What's with all this commotion? Compose yourself and speak properly," Ethan scolded. Ian had been with him for years—he should know better than to panic like this.

"Sir, it's serious! Ms. White is trending online. People are saying horrible things about her!"

At the mention of Ashley, Ethan's demeanor instantly changed. "What's happening?"

"The comments about Ms. White are vile, sir. Too vulgar to repeat."

Ethan was already checking his phone. Seeing headlines claiming Ashley had slept her way into her position, he laughed bitterly. "Ashley trading sexual favors for a promotion? What garbage. Find out who published these stories and have them taken down immediately."

"Yes, sir." Ian looked deeply concerned. "Sir... there's another story... please try to stay calm when you see it."

Ethan gave him a suspicious glance and continued scrolling until he reached the latest news.

The article claimed Ashley already had a lover but betrayed him to advance her career. It included photos of Ashley and Atticus near City Hall, allegedly getting marriage documents, and shots of them entering a photography studio together.

Seeing these images, Ethan slammed his phone onto the desk. "This is absurd! Ashley is my wife, not Atticus's!"

But the photos didn't appear doctored, suggesting they really had gone to City Hall.

The emotional shock triggered intense chest pain. Ethan clutched at his chest, his face contorted, veins bulging as he struggled to breathe. "God... it hurts..."

Ian was terrified seeing him in such distress. "Sir, what should we do? I shouldn't have shown you this. Hold on—I'm calling an ambulance!"

Ethan forced himself to calm down, regulating his breathing until the pain gradually subsided.

He waved dismissively. "Don't bother," he said weakly.

Leaning back in his chair, Ethan slowly regained his composure, though a dull ache lingered in his chest.

"Sir, please take your pain medication."

Ian handed him medicine and water. After taking it, Ethan felt more stable.

As Ethan checked his phone again, Ian cautioned, "Sir, maybe you shouldn't look anymore. I'm worried about your condition."

"I'm fine."

He carefully examined the photos of Ashley and Atticus once more, then exited the page and opened Ashley's WhatsApp.

She had messaged him an hour ago saying she was busy with something.

Ethan's mind raced.

What was she busy with? Going to City Hall with Atticus?

They were already married—wouldn't marrying again constitute bigamy?

Or was there another explanation?

Perhaps his suspicions were unfounded. He'd simply ask Ashley when she returned tonight.

After his initial shock at seeing the photos, Ethan had lost his composure. Now, thinking more clearly, he suspected there was more to the story.

He trusted Ashley. She wasn't that kind of person.

"Sir, are you sure you're alright? Perhaps we should go to the hospital for a checkup."

"I'm fine. Just make sure all those negative stories about Ashley are removed."

"Right away, sir."

Ian left to carry out the order but quickly returned. "Sir, we've taken down the online articles, but a woman has come forward with a statement. She's threatening to sue the café employee who posted the video and has explained the entire situation. Would you like to see?"

In the video, a woman was explaining the café confrontation. Ethan thought she looked familiar. After a moment, he realized. "Isn't that the nurse?"

"Sir, she's Callum's daughter. You left during her interview today, and the decision was left to the committee. They unanimously approved her for the council position."

"What? Callum's daughter got the position? Who authorized this—Callum himself?" Ethan's eyes hardened. "I don't want to see that woman. Revoke her appointment immediately."
