Chapter 324 Making a Call
Ethan checked his watch and said, "I've got a meeting later. I'll get someone to look after you at the hotel. If you need anything, just call me."
Annie nodded, "Alright then."
After sorting everything out, Ethan dropped Annie off at the hotel and headed to the branch office for his meeting. Annie stood on the balcony, watching Ethan rush off, a cold, sinister smile playing on her lips.
Meanwhile, Ashley was out in the countryside, living a laid-back but kinda boring life without the internet. With nothing better to do, she wandered down a path and ended up at a pond where William and Liam were fishing.
They were fishing and chatting away.
Liam grinned, "Mr. Lynch, you never admit defeat, do you? Now you wanna challenge me to a fishing contest. If I catch more fish than you, you better not back out!"
William, a bit annoyed, shot back, "Who lost the chess game? If you don't catch any fish today, you won't get to eat!"
Liam laughed, "You're so old, yet you still can't handle losing!"
William glared at Liam, but Ashley, who knew him well, could see the admiration in his eyes for Liam.
This old man had a weird temper. He admired people but always spoke harshly!
William turned and saw Ashley, "Ashley, when did you get here?"
Ashley smiled, "I've been here for a while, watching you two argue. Didn't want to interrupt."
William said, "We're running low on groceries at home. This afternoon, have Liam take the car to town to buy them."
Ashley nodded, "Sure, just give me the shopping list."
William had already made a long list, including stuff like body wash, shampoo, towels, and toothbrushes. Ashley's family had come in a hurry and hadn't brought all their daily necessities. William, being thoughtful, had written down everything they needed.
Ashley said, "Liam, take me to town later."
Liam secured the fish tank and said to William, "Mr. Lynch, I'll leave my fishing rod here. I'll challenge you to a fishing contest after I get back from shopping!"
William grumbled, "Get lost!"
The siblings shook their heads with a helpless smile and left together.
After walking a bit, Liam said, "I don't think Mr. Lynch is scary at all. He's got a weird temper, but he's kinda cute sometimes."
Ashley smiled, "William is a good person."
Ashley's eyes sparkled, "Let's hurry to town. There's no signal here, and I can't even make a phone call."
Liam gave a knowing smile, "Missing Ethan? Want to give him a call?"
Ashley blushed and nodded. "Let's go. I'll take you to town."
The siblings headed towards town.
They laughed and chatted the whole way. After about a two-hour ride, they finally reached the small town.
The town had a rustic charm, but the streets were bustling with shops. Liam said, "Ashley, I know you miss Ethan. Go make your call. I'll handle the shopping."
"Thanks, Liam." Ashley eagerly called Ethan.
At that moment, Ethan was in a meeting. He always put his phone on silent during meetings, so he didn't hear Ashley's call.
Seeing the unanswered call, Ashley frowned, feeling a bit let down.
They hadn't seen each other for almost a week. She finally had a chance to call, but Ethan didn't answer. How could she not feel disappointed? But she figured Ethan might be busy. Even though she felt a bit resentful, she understood.
With nothing else to do, Ashley went into the supermarket and saw Liam leaning against a wall, talking on his phone.
Ashley walked closer and heard Liam say, "It's been so long. Do you miss me? You're such a heartless woman."
Ashley raised an eyebrow. Liam's tone and demeanor clearly suggested he was in a romantic relationship, but he had never mentioned having a girlfriend.
Although curious, Ashley didn't like eavesdropping, so she walked away to buy what she needed.
Meanwhile, Ethan wrapped up his meeting. "Today's meeting is over," he said, closing his files.
Ethan got up and left with his files. When he took out his phone, he saw over a dozen missed calls, all from Ashley!
Ethan felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. He quickly called her back. On the other end, the sound of the phone ringing matched the pounding of Ethan's heart, and cold sweat dripped from his forehead!
Meanwhile, Ashley and Liam had finished shopping and were getting ready to head back.
Ashley was still waiting for Ethan's call. When her phone rang, she saw the caller ID and answered excitedly.
"Hello, honey!"
"Hello, darling!"
They spoke in unison, their voices filled with longing for each other. Despite the distance, it felt like they could see each other, their eyes bright and reflecting each other's image.
After a long silence, they both said at the same time, "I miss you so much."
