Chapter 45 Finding Mrs. Yates' Family
"Did you find your parents?"
"Yeah."
Ava's face was beaming with a smile.
"Ethan, do you remember the Rocky Mountains kidnapping case?"
At this point, Ava's eyes flickered, but unfortunately, Ethan was in too much pain to notice her unusual behavior.
"I remember."
"After I saved you back then, your family rushed you to the hospital for a check-up, and I couldn't find a place to stay, so I went to the Rocky Mountains Orphanage. One time, I had a high fever, and when I woke up, I couldn't remember anything from before."
"I never thought that after all these years, my family would still find a way to locate me. I just reunited with them a few days ago."
Ethan was puzzled. Why was she telling him all this?
Ethan asked in confusion, "Were you the little girl who was kidnapped back then?"
"Yeah."
Ava nodded heavily.
Ethan scrutinized her with a probing look.
The candlelight was too dim back then, and he couldn't clearly see the face of the little girl who was kidnapped with him, but from the voice, he could tell that their voices were completely different...
However, the Yates family had searched the mountains, and besides the kidnappers and the two of them, there was no one else present.
Even though the facts were right in front of him, he just couldn't believe it!
Ethan was skeptical. "But before I was taken to the hospital, I specifically asked for your address, and I remembered you told me you lived in the orphanage."
Ethan felt like there was a loophole somewhere.
Ava felt a bit panicked. It was because she had taken someone else's place and was afraid that the truth from back then would be exposed, so she was eager to deceive him.
Ava said, "Maybe the situation was complicated at the time, and I was so scared that I forgot my real address and just said the orphanage's address."
"Really?"
Ethan didn't seem so easy to fool.
Ava's heart was in turmoil. "Of course, Ethan, don't you believe me? Besides, my parents and I have already done a DNA test, and our parent-child relationship has been confirmed."
Hearing that their parent-child relationship was confirmed, Ethan hesitated and had no reason to doubt her.
"Congratulations on finding your family."
"Ethan, to celebrate finding my family, let's go out tonight, okay?"
Ethan rubbed his temples. "I'm tired."
"Oh, sorry, I got too excited and forgot you're still sick. How about I ask you out when you feel better?"
Ethan tiredly agreed, and Ava helped him lie back down and covered him with the blanket.
"You should go now."
Ethan issued a subtle order to leave.
Ava's eyes flashed, but she smiled brightly. "I'll be waiting outside. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay."
Ava left the room and smiled slightly at Diannel. "Diannel, I'm going to get some hot water for Ethan."
Diannel replied, "Thank you, Ms. Lee."
After she walked away, Diannel entered the room and reported, "Mr. Yates, we received some information from back home. There's been progress in finding Mrs. Yates' family."
As she spoke, Diannel took out a laptop, opened an email, and prepared to place it in front of Ethan.
Ava realized she had forgotten her phone and turned back to get it. Just as she reached the door, she heard Diannel's words, and her heart skipped a beat.
Panic flashed in her eyes.
Ethan was helping Ashley find her family!
No, she couldn't let anyone take away the wealth and status she had worked so hard to obtain!
Just as Ethan was about to look through the documents, Ava suddenly rushed in, and Ethan instinctively closed the laptop.
"Ethan, I left my phone on the bed. I came back to get it."
Ethan responded indifferently.
Ava went to get her phone, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw the laptop. A plan flashed through her mind. She glanced at the water cup beside her and suddenly picked it up, saying, "Ethan, you should drink more hot water since you're not feeling well."
"I don't want any."
Ethan waved her off, but Ava insisted on handing it to him. After a few back-and-forths, Ava took the opportunity to spill the water on the laptop.
