Chapter 309 Investigation
Lucas was like, "What? Ethan's got a secret kid? For real?"
Ivy's eyes lit up, "True or not, who cares? With all the online buzz, who can tell what's real? I just need to get what I want!"
Lucas was curious, "So, what's the plan?"
Ivy grinned, "Dad, here's what you gotta do..."
As Ivy laid out her sneaky plan, Lucas listened with a smug look, "Alright, I'll do it your way. But if this messes up again, I'm done with you!"
Lucas stormed out of the police station. Just as he hit the door, he bumped into someone. In a foul mood, he snapped, "Watch where you're going!"
He yelled, then noticed the guy was in a police uniform and bolted.
Ryan adjusted his jacket, gave Lucas a once-over, and frowned, "What's he doing here?"
A cop nearby said, "Mr. Reid, he came to see Ivy."
Pauline, now in her casual clothes, walked up to the door and spotted Ryan, "Mr. Reid, still on the clock?"
Ryan smirked, "Just waiting for you."
With everyone around giving them knowing looks, Pauline blushed and dragged Ryan out.
Hotel
Samantha and Landon rolled up to the hotel together. Landon grabbed her hand, and they headed straight to the room. As soon as they got in, Landon pulled Samantha into a tight hug. She hugged him back, and they started making out like crazy.
After what felt like forever, Samantha was wiped out and just lay there on the bed. Landon got dressed and looked at her, feeling a weird pang in his chest.
Landon called out, "Samantha."
She answered softly.
Pushing down the strange feeling, Landon said coldly, "This is it. I'll send you the breakup money later."
Samantha, still on the bed, looked up at him in surprise but quickly pulled herself together, "Forget the money. Let's just act like strangers if we run into each other."
With that, she buried her face in the blanket and tried to sleep.
A flash of anger crossed Landon's face, 'damn woman, so cool, not a hint of sadness.'
Feeling both defeated and like something had jabbed his heart, Landon, too proud to admit he was the one who didn't want to let go, said coldly, "Whatever."
And with that, he left.
It wasn't until his footsteps faded away that Samantha started to cry.
They had agreed it was just physical, but she hadn't expected it to end so soon.
For a moment, Samantha cried in sadness!
No wonder Ashley said Samantha can't be so sure about it. It turned out that in every moment of pleasure, she had already become deeply involved!
The next day...
Ashley rolled out of bed and made a beeline for Mia's room, "Mom, how you feeling after that herbal bath last night?"
Mia smiled, "Honestly, I feel a lot better. Hayes, I think my skin's even improved."
Even though Mia couldn't see, she could tell her skin felt different when she got dressed that morning.
Ashley nodded, "Mom, take it easy. We'll keep this up. I'll give you another therapy session later today. Got some stuff to handle first."
"Alright, you go on."
Ashley headed to another room to check on John after making sure Mia was settled.
After a couple of days of herbal baths and one therapy session, John looked a bit better and wasn't as groggy. Ashley gave him a few tips and then bounced.
She needed to dig into Yara's situation!
Yara and Ethan were from Aurora University, so she kicked off her investigation there.
At the admin office, after explaining who she was and why she was there, the principal was super helpful and started pulling out their old academic records.
As Ashley flipped through the files, she was surprised, "Wait, Liam and Samantha went here too?"
The principal nodded, "Yep, Mr. White was a big deal here. His basketball skills won him a lot of fans."
He added, "And Samantha was the cheerleading captain. I remember Mr. White even chased after her."
"What, Liam went after Samantha?" Ashley was floored.
"Yep!"
"And there were even whispers about Yara and Mr. White having a romantic relationship after they graduated," the principal said.
Ashley was shocked, "Yara and Liam have a romantic relationship?"
"Yeah, but we never saw them together at school. Rumors are just rumors!"
"But Mr. Yates was always hitting the books, a real academic star. Never saw him messing around with any girls."
Hearing this, Ashley felt a bit warm inside. She hadn't expected Ethan to be so focused and not date anyone during college!
Ashley asked, "Principal, do you still have the surveillance footage from the graduation party five years ago?"
The principal shook his head, "We only keep records for four years. The footage from five years ago is long gone."
Ashley felt a bit bummed but stood up and said, "Thanks, Principal."
Ashley snapped some photos of the records at the school, including those of Landon, Yara, and Samantha.
Even though the school didn't have the footage, maybe some nearby places did. So Ashley started checking around. She spent the whole morning on this mission.
Around lunchtime, she got a message from Samantha, "Ashley, wanna grab lunch together?"
Ashley, having found zilch all morning and feeling a bit worn out, replied, "Sure, where we meeting?"
