Chapter 260 Ashley Teaches the Fool a Lesson
Ethan shrugged, looking like he couldn't care less, but seeing Ashley's curiosity, he said, "The charity gala's thrown by the Lopez family. Nora's part of that clan, so it's probably got something to do with them."
Ashley nodded, "Got it."
Not really into the stuff being shown on stage, Ashley said, "Babe, I'm gonna go say hi to Nora. Be back in a bit."
"Cool." Ethan nodded.
Ashley got up and made her way to where Nora was hanging out.
The backyard of the charity gala was this cute little garden with a pool. Some socialites were sipping drinks, munching on snacks, and chatting away.
Ashley overheard some gossip.
A woman said, "Did you catch the news? Mr. Yates and that skank all lovey-dovey. Those online folks are so into watching others' sweet moments. Like, mind your own business!"
"Hadley, you jealous?" another one asked.
The woman named Hadley Davis, she was tight with June.
Hadley scoffed, "Jealous? Please, those two are gonna split sooner or later!"
"What do you mean?" They looked puzzled.
Hadley glanced around all secretive and said, "I heard Ashley can't have kids. Even Mr. Yates is currently head over heels for her, her status won't last long!"
"Oh my, is that true?"
"Totally. I bet they'll announce their divorce within a month!" Hadley sneered.
Ashley crossed her arms, listening to them trash-talk her, a cold smile on her face, her eyes flashing like icy daggers.
Ashley was about to give them a piece of her mind when a small figure rushed over. Out of the corner of her eye, Ashley saw it was Nora, "Nora..."
Nora's next move shocked everyone.
Nora, holding a few bottles of juice, took advantage of their distraction and splashed the juice all over them.
Shrill screams filled the air as they scrambled around like headless chickens, their frantic movements drawing laughs and jeers from the crowd. Hadley yelled angrily, "You little brat! This dress is custom-made and expensive. How dare you mess it up!"
Nora wasn't scared at all. She stood tall, chin up, and faced them, "You nasty women, talking trash about others behind their backs. Watch out, or your tongues might get cut off at night!"
"I'll smack you!" Hadley raised her hand to hit Nora, but it was stopped mid-air.
Hadley snarled, but seeing it was Ashley, her attitude instantly changed, "Ashley..."
Ashley sneered, "You were pretty bold badmouthing me and scolding a kid. Why can't you talk tough now?"
Nora made a face at them and hid behind Ashley, "Ashley, they were badmouthing you. Put them in their place."
"Who do you think you are? Just because you're Mr. Yates' wife, you think you're better than me? If you're so great, why don't you have a kid with Mr. Yates?" Hadley shouted.
Ashley paused, but Hadley, thinking she hit a nerve, laughed arrogantly, "I bet you can't even have kids!"
She added, "You're so useless. How do you have the nerve to cling to Mr. Yates? Get divorced already!"
Ashley glanced at her, her tone icy, "Really? If you're so capable, why don't you pop out a dozen kids for your man?"
"Who can have that many kids at once?" The onlookers laughed, "Isn't that a roundabout way of calling someone a breeding machine?"
Hadley was furious at being mocked.
Ashley waved her hand, pushing Hadley away, but Hadley, not willing to back down, tried to get physical. Ashley's eyes turned cold, and she slapped her.
Hadley looked shocked. "You dare hit me!"
Ashley looked at her coldly. "I hit you because you badmouthed me. You make me feel gross!"
"Remember, my husband and I will never get divorced in this lifetime! A man like my husband isn't someone a dumb woman like you can dream of. Give up, you dumb pig!" For the first time in her life, Ashley cursed, completely shutting the other down.
Nora, watching the drama, clapped happily, "Serves you right for getting hit!"
"Nora, let's go!" Ashley said.
Nora followed Ashley out. At the entrance, Nora said, "Ashley, that woman just now, she helped June before, and they bullied my mommy so badly."
