Chapter 172 Bad Company
Ethan heard the automated message on the phone and felt confused.
"Why isn't she picking up?"
He checked the time; it was already 1 AM.
Ethan rubbed his temples, looking exhausted.
"Maybe she's asleep. I'll try later," he muttered.
Just then, Diannel knocked on the office door. "Mr. Yates, these documents need your urgent attention."
"Alright, leave them here."
Despite his fatigue, Ethan pulled himself together and focused on work.
He worked through the night.
Meanwhile, Sienna found an experienced caregiver for Ashley, and the three of them took a cab back to Maple Grove Estate.
The caregiver got Ashley settled in bed, cleaned her up, changed her clothes, and tucked her in.
By the time they finished, it was 2 AM.
"Ms. Wilson, everything's done. You should rest."
"Where's Sienna?"
"Ms. Nelson's already asleep."
Ashley nodded, a bit disappointed.
"Okay, you should rest too."
After the caregiver left, only a small lamp was on. Ashley was tired but couldn't sleep.
She wanted to turn over but couldn't, wanted to sleep but couldn't, feeling tormented.
She trusted Ethan, but what she heard made her doubt...
Ashley lay there all night, staring at the ceiling, conflicted.
Early morning.
When Sienna came to Ashley's room, she saw Ashley still asleep with dark circles under her eyes.
She tried to leave quietly, but the door creaked, waking Ashley.
"Who is it?"
"It's me, Ashley. Sorry, I woke you."
Sienna sat by her, looking at her thin face and dark circles, feeling heartbroken. "Ashley, didn't you sleep well? Your dark circles are so heavy."
Ashley sighed in relief. "I couldn't sleep. I want to see Ethan and ask him about last night."
Sienna frowned. "Ashley, nothing good happens when you're with Ethan. Now's not the time to see him."
"You're seriously hurt. If you go back to the Yates mansion and Ivy does something again, it could be worse."
"And remember last night? When you called, he was..."
"Anyway, you can't see him now. He should come to you and apologize."
Ashley's eyes dimmed. "What if it's a misunderstanding? If we talk, maybe it'll clear up."
Sienna sighed. "What misunderstanding? You heared it with your own ears; you just don't want to believe it."
"Alright, Ashley, stop thinking about him. You didn't rest well. Get up, eat something, and sleep more."
Ashley lowered her eyes and nodded reluctantly.
Meanwhile.
Ethan had been busy all night. Dragging himself home, he stepped into the Yates mansion when Ivy approached him.
"Ethan, you're back. I made breakfast. Come try it."
Ethan was surprised. Why was she being so nice?
He nodded slightly. "Where's Ashley? The maids who took leave last night should be back. Call her down to eat with us."
Ivy's face changed slightly. "Ashley? She went out with her shady friend in the middle of the night."
Ethan frowned, displeased. "What sahdy friend? Mom, who are you talking about?"
