Chapter 82 Preparing for the Rescue
"Woof!"
Pauline saw someone walking a dog and quickly stashed her gear.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?"
The guy was a big, burly dude.
Sienna saw the dog and screamed. The dog barked back, looking like it was ready to pounce.
Pauline stepped in front of her, and the dog lunged.
"Ah—"
Pauline grabbed a stick and waved it around to scare the dog off.
"Control your dog! We're just hiking, and you let your dog attack us!"
"Hiking?"
The burly man pulled the dog back and stepped closer, eyeing them suspiciously.
"Who hikes in the middle of the night out here?"
"We always hike at night. We didn't know there was a villa here. How much for a night's stay? Can we crash here?"
The man sneered, "Get lost! This is private property. No outsiders. If you don't leave, I'll let the dog loose."
"Alright, we're going."
Pauline pulled Sienna away.
Once they were a safe distance away, Sienna's heart was still racing. "That was terrifying. I saw a lot of guards around that villa, all looking tough. We can't take them on."
"Who said we have to fight them head-on?"
"Then what do we do? The longer Ashley stays with them, the greater the danger she faces."
"Isn't Ethan competent? Let's tell him where she is and let him handle it."
"Good idea!"
They headed down the mountain and drove to the Yates family.
Halfway there, Pauline saw some news about Ethan and got furious. "Damn, Ethan dumped Ashley to marry some rich girl?"
"Are all men heartless?"
"Not all of them, right?"
Pauline stopped the car and watched the news video closely, noticing Ethan's finger tapping on the table.
"See, he's just like Nathan; both are jerks!"
"Not necessarily. Look at his hand gesture..."
"What's with the gesture? It's just tapping the table. Does it mean something?"
"It's a secret signal. I think Ethan can't find Ashley, so he's using this to provoke her into escaping so he can rescue her."
Sienna's jaw dropped. "Is that even possible? Can Ashley understand it?"
"Well, I don't know..."
"We still need to go to the Yates family to figure out how to rescue Ashley."
Pauline drove towards the Yates family.
At 9 PM, the Yates house was lit up.
Ethan was pacing in the living room, restless.
Ryan, sitting on the sofa, was deep in thought. Seeing Ethan pacing, he complained, "Ethan, can you stop? You're making me dizzy."
"The press conference is out. Why hasn't Chris brought Ashley out yet? If she doesn't show up, how can the cameras catch her?"
Ethan was anxious.
"Ethan, relax. Our team is on it."
Just then, the butler came over. "Mr. Yates, two young ladies say they're friends of the young mistress and have important news."
Important news?
Ethan guessed it was about Ashley. His eyes lit up. "Let them in."
Pauline and Sienna walked in and saw a bunch of police officers discussing the rescue. On the sofa sat a handsome man with a righteous vibe.
Pauline couldn't help but take a second look.
Since they entered, Ryan had been watching them too, finally locking eyes with Pauline.
"What do you have to say to me?"
Ethan's tone was cold and serious. Sienna, intimidated, tugged on Pauline's sleeve.
Pauline snapped out of it. "We know where Ashley is."
"Where is she?"
Ethan was both surprised and delighted.
The police officers stood up, interested.
Pauline took out her gear. "We just scouted the area. Guards are everywhere, and it's tough to get in. We didn't want to act rashly, so we came to you."
"What's this?"
Ryan examined the gear curiously.
Pauline said, "It's a tracking system I made. Ashley doesn't even know I put a tracking chip on her."
"That's awesome! Ryan, let's plan how to rescue Ashley!"
They discussed and planned a midnight raid, with one group luring the guards out and another group rescuing Ashley in secret...
