Chapter 323 Entrusting Her to Ethan
The Next Day
Ethan, all suited up, looked like he just stepped out of a high-end magazine. As he strolled into the lobby, someone called out, "Hey, sir, hold up!"
It was Annie. She was in a wheelchair, her foot all bandaged up, and she rolled herself over to Ethan with the automatic controls.
Ethan glanced over and, for a second, thought he saw Ashley!
He remembered how Ashley had been stuck in a wheelchair for months after an injury. Annie looked so much like Ashley that, for a split second, Ethan thought it was her!
But he quickly snapped out of it.
Ethan's voice was icy, "What do you want?"
Annie said, "My boyfriend's here. He wants to talk to you. He's in the lobby too. You guys can chat."
Ethan checked his watch and said, "For compensation stuff, talk to my lawyer."
With that, Ethan turned to leave. He had barely taken a few steps when Annie called out loudly, "Sir, don't go."
Annie's raised voice caught the attention of a few people nearby. A guy walked over from Ethan's side and asked warmly, "Annie, what's up?"
"George, he's the one who hit me with his car!" Annie said.
The name George rang a bell for Ethan. He paused and turned around just in time to see the back of Annie's boyfriend.
Annie's boyfriend turned to look at Ethan, and both of their faces showed surprise.
"George?" Ethan looked at Annie, shocked. "Is Annie your girlfriend?"
George scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Yeah, I forgot to introduce you. This is my girlfriend, Annie. Annie, this is my cousin."
Annie looked back and forth between Ethan and George, incredulous. "What a coincidence!"
Ethan checked the time and said, "Hold on, I need to make a call."
He made a call and whispered, "Push the meeting back an hour."
After handling his business, the three of them found a spot to sit in the lobby. Because Annie had coincidentally run into Ethan several times and looked so much like Ashley, Ethan had initially been suspicious of her. But upon learning she was George's girlfriend, he relaxed, and they started chatting.
George said, "If I had known it was you who hit Annie, we wouldn't even be discussing compensation. We're family."
Annie clung to George's arm the whole time, which made Ethan dispel his doubts about her.
Ethan took a sip of tea and calmly said, "That's not true. Since it was my fault, compensation is necessary."
George said, "Forget about the compensation. I'm going abroad soon and can't take care of Annie. Could you help take care of her for a while?"
Ethan frowned, worried that Ashley might mind it. But since Annie was George's girlfriend, he couldn't refuse.
Ethan nodded, "Alright."
George said, "While I'm abroad, I'll leave Annie in your care. Please take good care of her and make sure everything goes smoothly."
George treated Annie like she was precious.
Ethan smiled, "Got it."
Annie clung to George's arm, "George, I don't want to be apart from you. I want to go abroad with you."
George smiled, "Sweetheart, your foot is injured. It's not suitable for long trips. Wait for me to come back."
Annie blushed and nodded obediently, "Okay."
George kissed Annie on the cheek and said to Ethan, "I'm leaving Annie in your care. I'm off now!"
"Alright," Ethan replied.
Before leaving, George and Annie exchanged a look that Ethan mistook for deep affection. In reality, they were secretly communicating, as if everything was under their control.
"Ethan, can I call you that?" Annie's voice was high-pitched and delicate. When she called him in a flirty manner, it made Ethan uncomfortable. He frowned but, remembering she was George's girlfriend, sighed and said, "Whatever."
"Ethan, where are we going next?" Annie asked.
