Chapter 401 Suspicion

Felicity appeared prepared for her arrest, offering no resistance. "Ethan, if you doubt these reports, why not take another DNA test with James right here in front of the media?"

She pressed on. "The truth will come out with a new test, won't it?"

A journalist called out, "Miss, why are you publicly revealing their identities? What's in it for you?"

"I simply despise them," Felicity replied coldly.

Her admission—no conflict of interest, just pure animosity—lent credibility to her claims. She was willing to bring down Ethan and Ashley purely out of dislike.

"Mr. Yates," another reporter pressed, "would you agree to a new DNA test?"

"Yes, one test would clarify who's lying," someone else chimed in.

The crowd turned their focus to Ethan and Ashley.

Liam shifted nervously, while Doris's eyes darted around as if recalling something unsettling.

"You want me and Ashley to take new tests?" Ethan's voice was ice cold. He laughed bitterly. "Why should I comply with your demands?"

His gaze swept across the crowd, his frost-like stare making people physically shiver.

"You are not worthy," he stated with measured precision.

Ethan signaled to Diannel, who stepped forward professionally. "Ladies and gentlemen, today's press conference was solely to announce the Yates Group's new partnership agreement. We request that no further speculation occur, and ask that the police remove these unauthorized individuals."

Despite the pressure, Ethan remained remarkably composed, handling the situation with impressive control.

As Josselin and Felicity were escorted away by police, Ava watched from the crowd, concealed beneath a baseball cap, her nails digging into her palms, eyes filled with hatred.

'Don't think you've escaped, Ethan,' she thought. 'I'll put you back in the spotlight soon enough.'

The conference proceeded as planned, with media documenting the four-company partnership agreement.

By six o'clock, everything was wrapping up.

"Mom, shall we have dinner together?" Ethan suggested.

"Sure," Doris agreed.

As they prepared to leave, Liam approached. "Ethan, there's something I need to confess."

He looked like a child who'd made a terrible mistake.

Noticing the crowd around them, Ethan suggested, "We're just heading to dinner. Why don't you join us?"

Liam nodded. "Alright."

The three arrived at a nearby upscale restaurant and were seated in a private room. After ordering, with just the three of them present in this secure space, they could speak freely.

"What is it, Liam?" Ethan asked.

"It's about Ashley," Liam began nervously, taking a sip of water.

Ethan immediately tensed. "What about her?"

Liam glanced awkwardly at Doris, realizing she would inevitably learn what he was about to share. "When I went to get the DNA results... they showed no blood relation between Ashley and me."

Ethan shot to his feet. "What did you say?"

"I was so convinced she was my long-lost sister," Liam admitted shamefully. "I had someone create false test results claiming she was my missing sister."

Ethan pointed at him, face tight with anger.

Doris, surprised herself, tried to defuse the situation. "Ethan, please calm down. Liam genuinely saw Ashley as his sister. That's why he did it."

"I'm sorry for causing you all this trouble," Liam said, head bowed.

Ethan took a deep breath, collecting himself. "So you're saying the DNA match between Ashley and your family was falsified?"

Liam nodded regretfully.

"That doesn't make sense," Ethan replied, frowning. "My people are meticulous. They don't make these kinds of mistakes."

"What are you suggesting?" Liam asked, confused.

"When Ashley returns tomorrow, you both should secretly take another test," Ethan said firmly.

Liam nodded in agreement.

A troubling thought suddenly crossed Ethan's mind, disturbed by the events at the reception.

If he were to take a paternity test with James...

What would the results actually show?
