Chapter 85 A Fresh Pairing

Pauline had never let a stranger take her home before. Her heart was racing, and she felt oddly nervous.

But since he was a cop, she figured she might be overreacting.

"I live in Lakeside Haven. Thanks, Mr. Reid."

"It's my pleasure to take you home. Let's go."

They left the hospital together.

Once in the car, Ryan occasionally glanced at Pauline.

Feeling his gaze, Pauline grew even more nervous.

"Mr. Reid... why do you keep looking at me? I haven't done anything wrong!"

As a law-abiding citizen, Pauline was on edge being stared at by such a handsome officer. She had a mix of respect and fear for the police.

Ryan smiled gently. "Don't worry. I'm just curious. You developed a positioning system—such impressive tech. Why not take it to a research center and offer it to the country?"

So that's what he was curious about. Pauline felt relieved.

"I just mess around with it for fun. It's not a big deal."

"Really?"

Ryan smiled. "Then can I come over later to check out your system?"

Pauline blinked in surprise.

If it were anyone else, she might think he was being creepy, but his serious expression made her feel silly for doubting him.

Pauline laughed nervously. "Now?"

Ryan nodded. "Yes."

"Alright..."

Pauline thought, 'He's a cop, full of justice. Don't think badly of him. He just wants to know more about the system.'

They arrived at her place.

Pauline invited Ryan in. "Mr. Reid, please come in."

Ryan looked around. Her home wasn't big, but it was cozy.

Pauline led Ryan to the study. The bookshelf was filled with books about "hackers" and "code," and there were several servers on the desk.

"This is my studio. I usually tinker with gadgets here."

"Oh..."

Ryan's gaze fell on the computer screen and the books.

Ryan was surprised. "You know hacking?"

Pauline admitted, "Mr. Reid, I just tinker for fun. I've never done anything illegal."

Her reaction amused Ryan. "Don't be so nervous. I'm here as a guest, not to search for evidence."

"Besides, you're so cute. You don't look like someone who'd commit a crime."

Cute?

Pauline, a seasoned homebody, rarely interacted with men.

Faced with Ryan's compliment, her face turned red.

Pauline laughed awkwardly. "Make yourself comfortable. I'll get you some water."

She ran out, clutching her wildly beating heart.

She was scared to death. His profession was intimidating, and she always felt she couldn't act recklessly around Ryan.

Ryan was very interested in Pauline's servers, and there were two modified tablets on the desk. Just as Ryan picked one up, Pauline came in with a cup.

"Mr. Reid, this is the positioning system I developed. Feel free to take a look."

Pauline stepped forward and tapped a software icon on the tablet, opening an interface.

In the process, her body accidentally brushed against Ryan's arm.

Feeling each other's body heat, Pauline awkwardly stepped back, and Ryan's eyes flickered.

"Let me take a look at this software."

"Okay."

They didn't speak further. Ryan delved deeply into the positioning system, finding it increasingly intriguing with each examination.

His focused expression was incredibly handsome.

Pauline looked at his profile, her eyes turning starry.

After a long time, Ryan put down the tablet and looked up to see the woman staring at him with a fascinated expression, causing him to smile.

He cleared his throat, and Pauline snapped back to reality.

"Ms. Miller, your software is excellent and would be very helpful for our work. If possible, I'd like to buy your software. Why don't we add each other on Facebook to discuss it further?"

"Huh?"

Pauline had developed the software out of concern for Ashley's safety, to find her quickly if needed. She never expected it to be adopted by the police one day.

This was certainly an honor!

Pauline quickly nodded. "Sure, I'll add you."

They added each other on Facebook, and it was almost dawn.

Ryan stood up. "Ms. Miller, you haven't slept all night. Get some rest."

Pauline nodded. "You too, Mr. Reid. I'll see you out."

Pauline got up to open the door, but she tripped over a chair and fell towards Ryan. "Ah—"

Ryan stepped forward to catch her, but unexpectedly, Pauline's lips landed right on Ryan's.

Their eyes widened in shock. Pauline was flustered, while a mischievous glint flashed in Ryan's eyes...
