Chapter 36 Meeting Gift
"Want to take a look?"
"Sure."
The two old men examined the ancient painting while Ivy was busy criticizing Ashley on the side.
Michael looked at Ashley and asked, "Ashley, did you spend a million bucks buying this painting from your friend?"
Ashley gave a dry laugh. Actually, it was a gift from a friend, but no one would believe that someone would give such an expensive gift, so she told a white lie.
"Yes."
"Ethan, you really married a gem. I didn't expect Ashley to be so good at finding treasures. This is a blessing for our family!"
Michael praised Ethan, who couldn't help but look at Ashley. She gave him a slight smile, a smile that felt like the warm sun in winter, making his heart skip a few beats.
James said, "Dad, what do you mean? Is this painting an original?"
Thomas replied, "That's right, it is indeed an original!"
"I could tell right away that this painting is an original by Leon."
Ivy exclaimed, "How is that possible!"
Although she didn't believe it, the two old men were renowned appraisers in the antique world. If they said it was an original, who would dare to doubt it?
Even though she was unwilling to accept it, she was clearly proven wrong.
Ethan also looked at Ashley in astonishment.
Thomas took another look at Ashley, finding her more and more familiar...
Ashley said, "If I come across any good ancient paintings in the future, I'll bring them to you."
"Thank you, Ashley."
The second gift Ashley brought was a pendant for Katherine.
"This is my gift to you. I heard that rubies can ward off evil and disasters. I hope it keeps you safe!"
When the servant took it out of the small wooden box, the two old men were stunned.
"Is this Burmese Pigeon Blood Red? How much did you pay for it?"
"Uh... five million dollars!"
It was actually another gift from a friend.
"What? You spendthrift woman, Ethan, you can't let her waste money like this anymore!"
"Yes, you should cut off her card immediately!"
Katherine loved the ruby and ignored their shouting. Michael helped her put it on her neck. "Ashley gave you this gift. Do you like it?"
Katherine said, "I like anything Ashley gives me, whether it's expensive or ordinary."
"You should keep it safe. This Pigeon Blood Red is worth a hundred million dollars."
What? She bought a Pigeon Blood Red pendant worth a hundred million dollars for five million dollars?
Everyone was stunned.
"Dad, you must be mistaken!"
Thomas said, "With both Michael and me verifying it, there's no mistake!"
Ethan looked at Ashley with a newfound appreciation.
"Uncle, Aunt, these are my gifts for you."
Ashley had the servant open the gifts. For Ivy, it was a limited edition sapphire necklace from a famous designer, and for James, it was a globally limited edition LV tie. Both were shocked. They didn't say a word of thanks but kept doubting if she had bought high-quality imitations. Because there were outsiders present, they didn't bring up the topic of divorce.
The total value of the gifts Ashley gave was worth several hundred million dollars.
"Alright, we've seen the gifts. Thank you, Ashley, for your thoughtfulness. Let's have lunch together."
The two old men kept asking Ashley questions, while James and Ivy looked at her with jealousy and resentment.
Ethan excused himself to the restroom but actually went to make a phone call.
"Diannel, check how much has been spent on my secondary card recently."
"Okay, Mr. Yates."
A moment later, Diannel replied, "Mr. Yates, there have been no transactions on your secondary card in the past six months."
Ethan's eyes flashed with surprise, but he remained calm and said, "Got it."
After hanging up, Ethan stood in the corner, looking at Ashley with great doubt.
She spent so much money on gifts but didn't use any of his money. Whose money did she use?
Or maybe she wasn't as simple as he thought?
For a moment, Ethan was filled with curiosity about Ashley.
After lunch, Ethan claimed he had to go on a business trip at 3 PM and found an opportunity to take Ashley away.
In the car, Ashley pretended to sleep out of exhaustion.
Looking at her sleeping face, Ethan's heart softened like a feather, and he couldn't help but trace her features with his fingers.
"...Ethan, don't bother me. I'm so tired. Let me sleep for a while."
Ashley unconsciously exuded cuteness and allure, making Ethan's heart feel touched. He impulsively lifted her chin and planted a kiss.
"Mmm!"
Ashley was startled awake.
The kiss was gentle and lingering, making Ashley's heart race wildly. It wasn't until they were both out of breath that they reluctantly parted.
"Ashley, why didn't you use my money to buy the gifts?"
"I..."
Ashley's eyes flickered; she didn't want Ethan to know about her own wealth yet.
Seeing her expression, Ethan became even more suspicious.
Ashley tried to dodge the question. "It was an urgent situation, and I didn't have time to pay. I'll settle it this afternoon."
Ethan was half-convinced. "Oh, really!"
Ashley's heart skipped a beat. She was still thinking of a way to get through this when Ethan's phone rang.
"Mr. Yates, we just signed the contract with Elisa, but the Queen of Ferndale has requested that you bring Mrs. Yates along..."
