Chapter 308 Someone is Lying
Ethan wrapped up his work and was itching to call Ashley. She'd been acting all distant during the day, making him super uneasy. When he finally called her that night, he was all kinds of cautious.
Who would've thought the big-shot Mr. Yates would be scared of his wife giving him the cold shoulder?!
But surprise, Ashley picked up real quick this time and even said she missed him. Just like that, all of Ethan's worries vanished!
Ethan grinned, "Babe, I miss you too. What’s up? Why were you so busy today?"
Ashley replied, "I'm with my parents."
She wanted to spill the beans about Yara, but it was too complicated to explain over the phone.
Ethan teased, "So now that you’re with family, you don’t need your hubby anymore?"
Ashley playfully scolded, "How could I? My mom’s got bad eyesight, and my dad’s not doing great mentally. They need someone around. You’re all healthy, why are you jealous of two patients?"
Ethan’s voice turned playful, "I don’t care. I'm just jealous of everyone you love. When I get back, you better make it up to me."
Ashley blushed.
Ethan said, "Babe."
Ashley replied, "Yeah?"
Ethan said, "I won’t be back for another half month. I miss you so much. Can we do a video call?"
Ashley giggled, "What’s the difference between a video call and a phone call?"
Ethan said, "Oh, there’s a difference. On a video call, you can undress in front of me."
Ashley’s face turned beet red. "You perv, can’t you be serious for once?"
Ethan’s laughter echoed through the phone.
Ethan said, "Just try it, okay?"
Ashley, blushing and heart racing, said, "I’m not trying anything with you. I’m going to sleep now. Hanging up!"
Ethan’s tone was filled with regret, "Alright then, babe, goodnight."
Ashley said, "Goodnight."
A minute passed, and neither of them hung up. Ashley said, "Why haven’t you hung up yet?"
Ethan said, "You hang up first, then I’ll hang up!"
Ashley thought of Yara’s matter and started to feel upset again. She hummed unhappily.
Ethan said, "Babe, what’s wrong?"
Ashley tentatively asked, "Let me ask you, did you go to your college graduation party?"
Ethan thought for a moment, "I think I did."
Ashley asked again, "Did you get drunk?"
From college graduation to now, so many years had passed. Ethan couldn’t remember those things and said, "I don’t remember."
Ashley was furious, "Did you get drunk at the party and do something wrong to a girl?"
Ethan said, "Babe, what nonsense are you talking about? I’m good at holding my liquor, and I’d never do anything inappropriate to another girl."
Ethan mumbled softly, "Because you were my first woman."
His voice was too soft, and Ashley didn’t hear clearly, "What did you say at the end?"
Ethan chuckled, "Why are you asking this?"
Ashley cleared her throat and said seriously, "It’s a very serious matter. I’ll tell you when you get back."
Ethan sensed the gravity of the situation and asked, "What’s so mysterious? Are you planning a surprise for me?"
Ashley snorted, "More like a shock!"
Ashley added, "I told you, I’ll tell you when you get back. I’m really hanging up now."
Ethan said, "Okay, hang up then. Goodnight, sweet dreams."
Ashley hummed and said, "Goodnight."
With that, she hung up the phone.
Ashley recalled Ethan’s words and frowned. Ethan said he was good at drinking, but Yara said he made a mistake because he was drunk.
The same incident had two different versions. One of them must be lying!
Ashley couldn’t figure out whether Ethan or Yara was lying. She pondered for a moment and muttered, "There are still many doubts about Nora’s matter. One of them must be lying. Looks like I need to investigate secretly!"
Seeing it was already late, she went to wash up and get ready for bed.
Prison
After the police investigation, the evidence of Ivy’s ten crimes was conclusive, and she would face legal proceedings in a month!
Currently, she was being held at the second precinct.
Lucas came to visit Ivy. Ivy, in a fit of anger, said, "Dad, you have to avenge me. I won’t give up so easily!"
Lucas sighed and said, "Face your reality. The Yates family has turned their backs on you, taken all your shares in the Yates Group, and they even sabotaged us, stealing many of the Xavier Group’s old and new customers. Now, the Xavier Group is in a mess."
Lucas, exasperated, said, "You can’t do anything right, but you’re the best at ruining things!"
Ivy said, "Dad, Ethan has an illegitimate child outside. You have to help me with this!"
