Chapter 346 Do Their Eyes Look Alike?
Ashley's face got all serious as she thought about 'Annie' and how she never once considered she might actually be Ava.
Still, Ashley couldn't shake off how 'Annie' and Ava had those same striking eyes. But Ava had died in prison, and 'Annie' looked, sounded, and was built differently. Maybe the eye thing was just a weird coincidence.
"Katherine, I think we're just overthinking this. Ava's dead. How could she still be alive?" Ashley said, voicing her doubts.
"Maybe," Katherine mumbled, sounding tired, and soon dozed off in the car.
When they got to the Yates mansion, Ashley called a bodyguard to carry Katherine to her room. Once Katherine was tucked in, Ashley headed to her own room.
Ashley called the small town where Mentor lived and asked someone to tell Mentor to call her back when they could.
She kept going back and forth on whether to tell Ethan about Katherine's terminal illness.
Telling him would definitely upset him. Katherine had raised Ethan, and losing her to illness would be a tough pill to swallow.
But Ethan deserved to know!
After a lot of thinking, Ashley decided to tell Ethan. She dialed his number, and after a few rings, he picked up, "Hey, honey."
She could hear papers rustling on his end; he was probably going through some documents.
"Honey, when are you coming home?" Ashley asked.
Ethan teased, "Miss me?"
Ashley rolled her eyes, "I need to talk to you about Katherine, she..."
She almost said it but stopped herself.
Ethan didn't know about her medical skills. If she told him about Katherine's illness and he started asking questions, how would she explain?
Ethan's voice got tense, "What's wrong with Katherine?"
Ashley hesitated for a moment, "I went shopping with Katherine today. She looked pale and seemed unwell. We should take her to the hospital for a full check-up soon."
Ethan let out a sigh, "Got it."
Checking the time, Ethan said, "I'm almost done with work. Wait for me at home."
Ashley nodded, "What do you want for dinner? I'll have it ready when you get home."
Ethan laughed and listed a few dishes, "Just those, make them however you like. Don't overdo it."
"Honey, I'll start cooking then. Can't wait for you to get home," Ashley replied.
After hanging up, Ashley saw she had some time, so she went out to the pharmacy to buy some herbs to make some medicinal food for Katherine.
Even though it wouldn't cure her, it could help improve Katherine's condition a bit.Ashley spent over an hour in the kitchen, and soon enough, a table full of delicious-smelling dishes was ready. With Ethan about to come home, she went upstairs and called out, "Michael, Katherine, come down for dinner."
The door creaked open.
Michael pushed Katherine's wheelchair out, "Ashley, you're wearing an apron. Did you cook all this yourself?"
Ashley nodded, "Yeah, I noticed Katherine wasn't looking too great, so I made some medicinal food to help boost her immunity."
Michael looked concerned, "You're so sweet, but you're pregnant. You shouldn't be cooking. You need to rest and take care of the baby, okay?"
Ashley smiled, holding Katherine's hand, and said playfully, "Michael, it's not that tiring. The food's getting cold; let's eat."
Katherine smiled warmly, "Thank you, Ashley. Has Ethan come back yet? Let's sit down for a family meal."
Ashley checked the time, "He should be back soon. I saved some food for him. Let's eat first."
"Okay."
The three of them went to the dining room, where the subtle fragrance of herbs filled the air. Katherine, who had been feeling drained both physically and emotionally, found the scent comforting and it even made her a bit hungry.
Katherine complimented, "Ashley, your cooking is amazing. Ethan is lucky to have you!"
Blushing, Ashley replied, "Thanks for the compliment, Katherine."
While Michael and Katherine focused on their meal, Ashley's eyes kept drifting towards the door. Ethan should have been back by now. What was taking him so long?
Ashley couldn't help but worry. Had something happened to Ethan?
Just as she was thinking this, her phone beeped twice. It was a text from Ethan: [Honey, sorry, something came up at work. After you have dinner, go to bed early. Don't wait up for me.]
Ashley felt a pang of disappointment but figured Ethan must be busy with work. She replied: [Okay, remember to eat dinner before you get back to work.]
Ashley picked up her fork and suggested, "Michael, Katherine, Ethan isn't coming back tonight. Let's eat more."
"Okay, Ashley, you should eat more too."
The three of them enjoyed their dinner happily.
Meanwhile,
Ava clutched her stomach, crying out in pain, "Ethan, it hurts so much. Can you hold me, please?"
Ethan's demeanor remained indifferent as he replied, "I'm not a miracle worker. Do you think holding you will cure your pain?"
Tears streamed down Ava's face as she pleaded, "Ethan, are you annoyed with me? George told you to take good care of me. Is this how you do it?"
Though visibly impatient, Ethan, bound by his promise to George, sighed and pushed Ava's wheelchair, "I'll take you to the hospital."
"Ethan, it hurts so much. Please, carry me to the hospital." Ava pleaded.
Ethan, extremely irritated, picked Ava up and roughly placed her in the luxury car just to get some peace and quiet.
Unbeknownst to Ethan, a paparazzo lurking in the distance clandestinely captured the entire exchange.
