Chapter 147 The Pitiful Person
Derek stopped mid-sentence, hesitating.
He stammered, "Mr. Yates, I think I saw something, but I can't remember clearly."
Ethan smirked and stood up, walking towards him.
His presence was cold and intimidating, making Derek sweat bullets.
Ethan leaned in and whispered, "Derek, do you know what happened to the last person who lied to me?"
Derek's legs shook, and he was drenched in sweat.
He swallowed hard, "Mr. Yates... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to lie... I was just scared. I don't know what you're investigating, but I'm about to retire. If this affects my pension, I..."
Ethan eased up and chuckled, "Don't worry. If you're honest and haven't done anything serious, your pension is secure."
Derek sighed in relief.
He composed himself and said, "The morning before yesterday, I saw Matthias talking to a patient in the stairwell. The patient gave him a bulging envelope. I think he took money from the patient behind the hospital's back."
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "How do you remember so clearly?"
"That day, I had a patient looking for me. The elevator got stuck, so I took the stairs and saw it. It left a deep impression."
"And..."
Derek hesitated.
"And what?"
"Matthias tried to bribe me, but I refused. I didn't go against the hospital's principles."
"Good."
Ethan patted his shoulder. "You can go back to work. I'll ask the director to give you a raise. Also, have Matthias come see me."
"Okay."
Derek left to call Matthias.
Ethan sat back, waiting, unaware that Felicity had already arranged to meet Matthias.
Matthias, a bald man in his thirties, looked shifty. Without his white coat, he seemed like a lecherous old man.

Matthias eyed Felicity lustfully.
"Matthias, you have to take my request seriously."
Matthias nodded. "As long as you sleep with me, I'll help you."
Felicity felt a pang of grievance but agreed to the deal.
Matthias eagerly stripped her, but when he saw her bruises, he exclaimed, "What happened to you?"
Felicity's body was covered in bruises, looking like years of abuse.
Biting her lip, Felicity asked, "Matthias, are you disgusted by me?"
Matthias shook his head, feeling pity.
He asked, "Can you tell me what happened?"
Felicity's gaze drifted to the distance, her heart heavy with the bitter memories of the inhumane treatment she had endured for over two decades.
"If you're willing to listen, I'm willing to tell."
Hospital.
May brought documents to Ashley's room.
She saw Samantha feeding Ashley fruit and got straight to the point. "Ashley, I've found all the information about Felicity."
Ashley said, "Go ahead."
