Chapter 129 Investigation
Ashley and Ethan had a fight, leaving her heartbroken and confused.
When it came to Samantha, Ashley felt guilty but also puzzled after hearing her story.
"Are you feeling any discomfort? Or..."
Ashley glanced at Landon and Liam; it wasn't a conversation for mixed company.
She signaled them to step aside, and they whispered in a corner.
"Does it hurt down there?"
Samantha shook her head. "I slept fine last night, and I don't feel any pain."
"Wasn't it your first time?"
Samantha blushed. "Of course, it was! I've never even had a boyfriend!"
Ashley asked again, "That's odd. The first time usually hurts a lot. You didn't feel anything? Something's off. Do you have any bloodstains?"
Samantha replied, "None on me, but there are some on the bed."
Ashley bit her finger, thinking hard. Samantha slept with Landon last night. If something had happened, she'd feel it. But she said she slept well.
This was really suspicious.
"Ashley, did you figure something out?"
"I just fought with Ethan, and my head hurts, but this is really strange. Let's call May to help us out." Ashley rubbed her temple.
Landon and Liam, left out of the loop, whispered. Liam asked, "Landon, do you like her?"
"Who?"
Liam looked at Samantha, his eyes hard to read.
Landon glanced at Samantha and shrugged. "I just met her yesterday. Why would I like her? Why are you asking? Did you fall for her?"
Liam blushed and looked away quickly, afraid that Landon would notice something.
Liam said, "I know her. We went to the same school, different departments. She played volleyball and was really cool."
Landon wasn't interested in Samantha's past. Recalling last night's events sent a sharp pain through his temples.
Liam's eyes dimmed. "Landon, if you end up with her, please take good care of her."
Landon was about to argue.
Why would he end up with that woman? Why was Liam acting so weird today?
"Landon, Liam."
Samantha and Ashley walked over. Seeing them talking, Ashley called out.
"Are you ready? Can we go now?"
Ashley said, "We think what happened last night was suspicious, so we want to consult a detective friend. Can you come with us?"
"Okay."
The brothers agreed without hesitation.
They left the Yates family. As they stepped out, Ashley looked back at the imposing mansion, her heart heavy with memories of Ethan.
At that moment, Ethan stood by the window, watching Ashley leave, his eyes darkening. He never thought she'd leave him willingly.
