Chapter 293 Knowing the Truth

At this point, Ashley knew she couldn't keep it under wraps any longer!

But this was about Ethan. How crushed would he be if he found out Ivy wasn't his real mom?

For a moment, Ashley was stuck! She had no clue how to break it to him.

Seeing her serious face, Ethan asked, "What's up?"

Just as he finished, his phone buzzed. It was Ryan.

Ashley said, "You should take that."

Ethan answered, "Hey."

"Ethan, I found some footage. It shows that on the day Ashley had the car accident, she had a fight with your mom on the rooftop. I sent the video to your email."

Ethan's heart dropped, "Got it."

He turned away from Ashley and asked coldly, "Was your car accident because of Ivy?"

Ashley overheard Ethan and Ryan's chat. Ethan was sharp; he quickly put two and two together.

Ashley nodded, "Yeah, we argued, and she let the truth slip. She tried to kill me to shut me up! After the accident, I didn't die. That first night in the hospital, someone came to finish the job, but I knocked him out!"

"What?" Ethan was already down, but hearing Ashley was attacked in the hospital made him furious, heartbroken, and guilty!

"Babe," Ashley held his hand, "Don't worry, I handled it. To keep them off my back, I pretended to be out cold. During those two days, I was gathering evidence."

"I was planning to expose her tomorrow!" she added.

Ethan said heavily, "Did she commit a crime?"

Ashley replied, "Of course, and it's tied to your background!"

Ethan was shocked, "My background?"

Ashley pulled out a stack of documents from under the bed, took out a paternity test report, and handed it to Ethan, "Babe, take a look, but don't freak out!"

Ethan's eyes landed on the paternity test report.

He flipped to the last page: [Ivy, Ethan, parent-child relationship, not established.]

Ethan's face went pale. He looked cold and expressionless, but pain was clear in his dark eyes.

"I see... no wonder..." He suddenly laughed, but there were tears in his eyes.

"Babe," Ashley felt heartbroken for him and hugged him tight. "That day on the balcony, she admitted you weren't her real son. Later, I took your hair and hers for a test, and it was just like she said."

Ethan buried his face in her shoulder. Only when others couldn't see his face could he show his most painful side. His eyes were dry, showing only a lifeless gaze.

"Babe," Ashley gently stroked his back, "I know you're really sad. If you want to cry, just do it!"

But Ethan laughed, a bitter laugh, "Cry for her? She's not worth it!"

"When I was a kid, every time she was in a bad mood and hit or scolded me, I doubted countless times if she was my mom! I always thought I was overthinking it. But I never expected it to be true!"

Ashley felt immense heartache. Seeing him so down, she decided not to mention that Doris was his mother at this moment, as it would be a double blow to him.

"Babe," Ashley felt his body gradually turning cold. She hugged him tighter, trying to transfer her warmth to him. "Don't be sad anymore!"

Ethan hugged her tightly and said, "You know, I am very sad, but it's not because Ivy isn't my real mom!"

Ashley looked at him in surprise.

They separated from their embrace and found a comfy spot to talk.

Ethan said, "What makes me sad is the shadow of my childhood! It was cast by a woman who has no blood relation to me! The more I think about it, the angrier I get!"

Ashley felt endless heartache. She had countless comforting words, but in the end, she just hugged him tightly to feel at ease.

They leaned against the wall, quietly holding each other. The moonlight outside the window spilled in, creating a special atmospheric scene.

"Babe, the harm she caused you," Ashley said, "I will make her pay back a hundredfold!"

Ashley looked so determined that it made Ethan laugh.

Ethan ruffled her hair, "Then tomorrow, you can show her what you're made of. Don't hold back, and I'll be waiting for your triumphant return!"

Ashley saw that Ethan's mood was gradually improving. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a passionate kiss.

Holding her close, all his anxieties melted away. What remained were just two entwined bodies under the moonlight.
