Chapter 160 Explode with Anger
Ethan took a few bites but couldn't eat more. Ignoring George's protests, he insisted on checking on Ashley.
Outside, he saw Catherine giving Ashley a hard time. Just as he was about to step in, Ashley confidently fought back.
Ethan was amused by her sharp tongue and started seeing her differently.
Ashley pulled out a gift, and Catherine looked surprised. "These are from the boutique," Ashley said.
"From the boutique? No way. You must've bought fakes to fool me!"
Ethan sighed and stepped in. "Aunt Catherine, Ashley and I bought these together. Are you saying I'm lying too?"
Catherine, who had been yelling, suddenly turned sweet. "Ethan, that's not what I meant. I just couldn't buy these myself. How did you get so lucky?"
Ethan shrugged. He didn't know much about it. Ashley had handled everything while he was on a work call.
Ashley smiled. "I'm friends with the sales associate. I asked her to hold these for me. I hope you like them."
Catherine, a skincare enthusiast, beamed. "Oh, thank you, dear."
Her attitude changed instantly. Ivy came out of the kitchen, fuming.
"It's just skincare products, Catherine. No matter how expensive, it's still bought with Yates family money. Some people are good at giving with borrowed resources."
Everyone found Ivy's tone grating.
Catherine quickly put on a stern face. "That's right. But, Ethan, thank you for your generosity."
Ethan frowned. "Aunt Catherine, Ashley chose the gifts. You should thank her. And, Mom, it's not right to talk like that. Ashley is my wife, and it's natural for her to spend my money. Who gave you the right to be sarcastic?"
Ashley pouted, noticing Ivy's disdain. What did she do wrong? Was it because she couldn't have children?
Ivy said, "Ethan, I was just joking. Don't be mad."
Ashley turned to George. "There's another gift for George."
George looked surprised as Thomas placed a gift box in front of him.
"For me?" George asked, astonished.
Ethan patted his shoulder. "Ashley picked this for you. See if you like it."
George opened the box to find rare, out-of-print books. These weren't available on the market and required effort to collect. Each book was something he loved.
"These are all out of print. How did you find them?"
Ethan didn't know. Ashley had chosen all the gifts without using his money.
"I heard you like reading," Ashley said. "Since you love literature, I thought you'd like these. I asked a friend to get them."
George looked at Ashley, his heart pounding like a drum solo. Everyone thought he was just a bookworm, but she was the one who gave him precious books.
"Thank you, Ashley. I really like this gift. Next time you visit, I'll make sure to give you a great gift in return."
"No need to be formal. I just gave you something you like. I hope you don't mind."
Catherine and George started to think better of Ashley. Ivy, noticing their change in attitude, felt frustrated but kept smiling in front of the guests.
She was about to explode with anger!
