Chapter 182 Sweet Call
Ethan got to Ferndale on the second night, looking wiped out from a rough flight.
"Mr. Yates," Diannel called out from a distance. "I've got a hotel ready for you. Rest up, then we can go see Kelsey."
Ethan wanted to get things done fast, but the cold wind made him feel dizzy and unwell.
"Alright," he said, walking to the car with Diannel.
"What's Kelsey's mood now?" Ethan asked.
"She's mad and wants compensation," Diannel replied.
Ethan rubbed his temples. "Forget resting. Let's go to the palace now. I'll talk to her myself."
"But it's late. She might be asleep," Diannel cautioned.
Ethan checked his watch. "It's still early. I'll call her. Tell the driver to head to the palace."
"Okay, Mr. Yates," Diannel said, sensing Ethan's exhaustion but knowing his determination.
Ethan, tall and handsome, spoke fluent Ferndalian, adding to his charm. After calling Kelsey, he dozed off in the car, coughing a bit. Diannel covered him with a blanket and closed the window.
Halfway there, Diannel's phone rang. He quickly silenced it and moved to the back to answer.
"Hello."
"Diannel, it's me," said Ashley.
Diannel was surprised. "Mrs. Yates?"
Ethan, half-asleep, heard and reached for the phone.
"Diannel, are you in Ferndale? Is Ethan asleep now? He might not be accustomed to the food in Ferndale. Take care of him," Ashley said.
Ethan took the phone. "Ashley, if you have something to say, call me directly."
There was silence. In Aurora, it was daytime. Olivia had helped Ashley call Diannel. Ashley was worried about Ethan being alone abroad.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Ethan's voice was hoarse.
"Ethan..." Ashley felt guilty. "I..."
"Why couldn't I reach you? Why didn't you tell me you were leaving? Do you need more help?"
Ashley felt even more ashamed. "I've been down, so I went back to Maple Grove Estate. But I'm fine now. Sorry, Ethan."
Ethan looked puzzled. "Why are you apologizing?"
Ashley felt deeply ashamed for doubting him when he needed her most. "I heard about your company's issues. I'll help you."
Ethan chuckled. "Really? You're amazing, Ashley."
Ashley insisted, "I can help... I..."
"Alright, we're at the palace. I'll call you after I handle this, okay?"
"Okay. Take care in Ferndale. Don't get sick again."
"Okay," Ethan said, and they hung up.
Ethan handed the phone back to Diannel, feeling dizzy.
"Mr. Yates, are you okay?" Diannel asked, supporting him.
"I'm fine. Let's go," Ethan said, following the guards to Kelsey's palace.
Ethan frowned. "Why aren't we meeting in the office?"
"Her Majesty Kelsey requested this. Please come in," a guard said.
Ethan felt uneasy but went in. The bedroom was dimly lit, with light pink curtains around a large bed. Maids were massaging Kelsey, and a tall, handsome man was massaging her back with oils.
Kelsey lay on the bed, exuding subtle allure. As Ethan entered, the maids stepped back, and the masseur looked at him jealously.
"Mr. Yates, come sit by me. Let's talk," Kelsey said.
