Chapter 17 Matchmaking
"Ashley, are you even listening?"
"My mind's a mess right now, I..."
Ashley clutched her head, looking frustrated. "How could I be pregnant..."
Her heart sank. She was pregnant with a gigolo's child, and his grandparents were desperate for a great-grandchild. They kept sweet-talking her into keeping the baby, promising they'd treat her well.
Ashley couldn't take it anymore. "Please, stop. I need to calm down."
"Alright, take your time. You're carrying our family's child. If you agree to marry into our family, we will take good care of you."
With that, Michael and Katherine left the hospital room. Ashley held her head in pain, feeling a severe headache. The thought of carrying a gigolo's child made her agitated, but there were two innocent lives inside her, and she couldn't selfishly take them away.
Outside, Ethan got a call from Diannel.
"Mr. Yates, bad news, you're on the headlines again!"
"What happened?"
"A reporter caught you carrying a girl into an ambulance, your hospital visit, and the girl's pregnancy. It's all over the internet."
"Mr. Yates, the Queen of Ferndale already knows about this. She wants to know what's going on. She doesn't like her partners having scandals..."
Ethan's expression turned dark.
"Suppress the public opinion and find out who dared to write such news about me," he said coldly.
Ethan hung up and saw his grandparents coming out. Furious, he stormed into the hospital room, but Michael stopped him. "Ethan, what are you doing? Don't you touch her; she's carrying your child!"
"Grandpa, she's a scheming woman. I told you not to get involved with her! I need to teach her a lesson!"
Ashley, hearing the commotion, was confused by his angry words.
'Accusing me of scheming? Is he out of his mind?'
Michael pulled him aside to talk.
Ethan was livid.
"I just got home, and she fainted. I carried her to the ambulance, came to the hospital, and it's been less than half an hour. Now it's already on the news! She must have planned all this!"
"I'll have someone investigate, but the fact that she's carrying your child is true. You shouldn't harm her, and you promised me you'd take responsibility!"
Ethan kicked the wall in anger. "Grandpa, she's a ruthless gold digger. I can't marry such a despicable woman!"
If it weren't for the headline news, Ethan might have been willing to marry Ashley, but this incident made him repulsed.
"You are driving me crazy." Michael's attitude was firm, as if he would die right in front of him if Ethan didn't marry Ashley.
Ethan's family relationships were complicated. He was raised by his grandfather and had deep feelings for him. Seeing him so persistent, Ethan reluctantly said, "Grandpa!"
"No more talking. As long as Ashley thinks it through, you must get married."
Ethan sneered. "Think it through? Isn't this all part of her plan? Pretending to be aggrieved and playing hard to get!"
"Ethan!" Michael's voice turned colder. "Be respectful to Ashley. She is my lifesaver!"
No matter how arrogant Ethan was outside, he was helpless in front of his grandfather.
"Fine, let her think it over."
"Alright, you two stop arguing. You go back first. I'll talk to her," Katherine said, sending them away.
Ethan, with a grim face, glanced at the hospital room, supported his grandfather, and left the hospital. Not long after, his phone rang. Ethan answered irritably, "What is it?"
"Ethan, is what the news said true? What's your relationship with that girl? Is she really pregnant with your child?"
