Chapter 216 Taking Ashley Shopping
The Next Day.
Golden sunlight poured through the window, lighting up the bed.
Ethan and Ashley were asleep, wrapped in each other's arms. Ethan woke up first, his arm numb from staying in the same position all night.
He tried to hold on but eventually had to gently slide his arm out from under Ashley's head.
Ashley stirred but was too tired from the night before to open her eyes, so she kept sleeping.
The phone rang. Ethan quietly got out of bed to answer it.
"Mr. Yates, today is Kelsey's birthday party. The gift is ready. Do you have the outfits?"
Ethan realized he forgot to buy the outfits yesterday.
He checked the time; they still had a few hours, enough to get the outfits.
"I'll get them soon."
"Alright, one more thing..."
Diannel paused, then said, "I got a call from the prison... Ms. Lee... she died in an accident."
"Ava is dead?"
Ethan was shocked, then frowned, sensing something was off.
In the bedroom, Ashley suddenly opened her eyes when she heard about Ava's death.
"Yes."
"What kind of accident?"
"A group fight. Since Ms. Lee was an orphan with no one to claim her body, it was cremated."
Ethan frowned deeper. Something felt wrong. After a moment, he coldly ordered, "Investigate it."
"Yes, Mr. Yates."
After hanging up, Ashley came out of the bedroom. "Honey, how did Ava die?"
"They said it was an accident."
"Is that so..."
Ashley had mixed feelings. Ava had caused her so much pain, but her sudden death was unsettling.
Ethan stepped forward to support her. "Why are you up? Your leg isn't fully healed."
Ashley said, "Don't worry, I can lean on the wall or walk slowly. It's fine."
"We need to go to Kelsey's birthday party at noon," Ethan said. "Let's get ready and buy some outfits."
"Okay."
They freshened up together. Ethan, as usual, wore a different suit every day.
Today, he chose a gray suit with a white shirt, looking both handsome and youthful.
But he struggled with his tie, muttering, "Damn it, this tie is always a hassle."
"Let me do it."
Ashley stepped forward to help Ethan with his tie.
They were so close, her lips almost brushed his chin.
Helping her husband with his tie felt cliché, like something out of a TV drama, but Ashley couldn't help feeling a warm happiness.
"All done."
"Thanks, Honey."
Ethan bent down and gave her a light kiss.
"Let's go. If we don't leave now, we won't have time to buy the outfits."
"Okay."
The driver had been waiting. They headed straight to the upscale shopping district.
Ashley could walk now, but Ethan kept asking, "Are you tired?"
"I'm fine."
"Let's check out that store."
"Sure."
They walked into a jewelry store. The clerk saw Ethan's high-end attire but didn't recognize the brand, assuming they were just window shopping.
"Sir, Ma'am, can I help you with anything?" the clerk asked, sounding uninterested.
Ashley said, "Just looking around."
The clerk rolled her eyes but said, "Feel free, but be careful. Everything here costs thousands, even tens of thousands. You wouldn't want to break anything."
Ethan frowned, his face darkening. Just as he was about to say something, Ashley tugged at him and gave him a look.
Ethan stayed quiet.
"Honey, I'll just look around."
The store had jewelry, handbags, and shoes.
Ethan pointed to a nearby sofa. "I'll sit there and wait. If you like something, just buy it."
Unfortunately, they were speaking in Aivalian, and the Ferndale clerk didn't understand.
"Are you from Aivalia?" the clerk sneered. "I heard people from Aivalia are quite poor. Here to broaden your horizons? Do you have any brand counters in Aivalia?"
Ashley glanced at her, treating her like an idiot.
Ethan, about to read a newspaper, couldn't stand it either.
Ashley quickly gave him a look, and he sat back down.
A new employee, just two days on the job, saw the senior clerk's poor attitude and mustered up the courage to warmly greet, "Ma'am, is there anything I can help you with?"
