Chapter 214 Sweet Like Honey
"So, there was a girl you grew up with? According to those cheesy TV shows, you two should've reunited, fallen in love, and gotten married. Why didn't you marry her?"
Ashley snorted, looking annoyed. "Guess I got in the way of you two!"
She pouted and turned away.
Seeing her jealous face, Ethan smirked, cupped her face, and gently turned it back.
"Jealous?"
Ashley turned away again.
Ethan turned her face back.
"Honey, look at me."
His voice was low and sensual.
"Don't look at me! I'm not as pretty as Hayes!"
"Looking back, I'm grateful she tried to help me, but we were just kids. How could we have understood what love really meant?"
Ethan gazed into Ashley's eyes, full of affection. "Who do you think I care about the most? You're smart, can't you tell?"
Ashley met his sincere, passionate eyes.
Her heart started pounding.
Suppressing her racing heart, she pouted. "If you don't say it, how am I supposed to know?"
They'd been through so much, but he never said those three words.
Ashley was waiting for Ethan to say "I love you."
Ethan knew what she wanted. He smiled, cupped her face, and leaned in for a deep, loving kiss.
Ashley let out a soft sound.
His lips moved slowly and tenderly over hers, and she didn't resist, gradually responding clumsily.
Her inexperienced yet enchanting response drove Ethan wild.
He growled softly, wrapping one arm around her waist and placing the other on the back of her head. They kissed passionately, making the world spin...
Just then, the microwave beeped, breaking the moment.
They paused, then reluctantly pulled apart.
Ashley blushed. "Ethan, the food's ready."
Ethan chuckled. "Hungry? Let's cook together."
"Okay."
With them working together, it felt easier.
Ethan didn't let Ashley carry anything heavy. While he chopped vegetables, Ashley guided him. At first, he wasn't very good, but he got the hang of it...
An hour later.
A delicious dinner was ready.
"Ethan, this is the first time I'm eating something you cooked for me."
"Try it."
"Okay."
Ashley picked up the utensils, but Ethan snatched them away. "What do you want to eat? I'll feed you!"
"This one."
Ashley smiled happily.
"Open your mouth."
She obediently opened her mouth, grinning. But after a couple of chews, her expression changed, though she quickly forced a smile.
Ethan eagerly asked, "How is it? Tasty?"
Ashley chuckled awkwardly. "...Delicious."
"Try this." Ethan offered her a piece of rib.
Ashley took a bite, her smile growing more strained.
"What's wrong? Not good?"
Ethan noticed her expression. "Did I forget to add salt?"
He took a bite of the rib himself.
"Ugh... it's... raw..."
Ethan quickly said, "Ashley, stop eating, spit it out."
But Ashley had already swallowed the half-cooked rib.
"Why didn't you tell me it wasn't cooked? You'll get a stomachache!"
"It's okay. You rarely cook for me, so I didn't want to be picky."
"Let's just eat the salad."
Ethan put a lot of lettuce in Ashley's bowl. She looked at the salad, swallowing hard.
Ethan, starving after a long day, took a bite of the salad but spat it out after a couple of chews.
"Why is it so sweet?"
"Why is the lettuce sweet..."
Ashley facepalmed and laughed. "...Looks like cooking is a skill. Even though you seemed to learn well, it doesn't taste right."
Ethan felt embarrassed.
Their stomachs were growling, and the whole meal seemed inedible.
"How about we eat out?"
"I'll make some pasta. It'll be quick."
Ashley got up to go to the kitchen, with Ethan following her out of concern.
Half an hour later, two steaming bowls of pasta were ready.
They were so hungry that the pasta tasted like a Michelin-starred meal. After eating their fill, they cleaned up the table together.
"Ashley, you rest. I'll clean up."
Ashley felt a bit helpless but happy. She chose to clean up with Ethan. While Ashley washed the dishes, Ethan wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. They held the dishes together, washing and smiling at each other.
The atmosphere was just right. Ethan leaned down, Ashley tilted her head, and they shared a deep kiss...
