Chapter 135 Unlucky Ashley
Ethan threw down his words, turned, and headed to the study, leaving Felicity stunned.
He stormed in, locked the door, and ruffled his hair in frustration, thinking about Ashley's stubbornness.
His phone rang. Seeing Diannel's name, he answered, "Hello."
"Mr. Yates, I found professionals to investigate the Yates family. Should I bring them over?"
Ethan, still fuming from his argument with Ashley, snapped, "No need."
"Huh?" Diannel was confused but didn't press. "Okay. The hospital called. The DNA report for Mrs. Ashley Yates and the two brothers is ready. Should I bring it over?"
The mention of Ashley made Ethan even angrier. "No need! From now on, stay out of anything related to Ashley Wilson!" He hung up.
Diannel, puzzled, thought, 'First time he's called her by her full name. Did they fight?' But she didn't dwell on it. Couples usually make up quickly.
Ethan, feeling lost about divorcing Ashley, called Nathan. "Are you busy?"
"Ethan? No, I'm free."
"Want to grab a drink?"
"Sure, send me the address."
They hung up and planned to meet.
At the hospital, Ashley was ready to be discharged. Landon and Liam handled the paperwork and packed her things, informing the White family about bringing her home. Samantha and May stayed with Ashley, cheering her up.
"Ashley, we're ready. Let's go," Samantha said, pushing her wheelchair. Landon approached with the discharge papers and an extra document, looking serious. "Wait."
"Landon, what's up?"
He pulled Liam aside. "You guys wait here. I need to talk to Liam."
The women were curious, but they nodded without thinking.
In a corner, Landon showed Liam the document. "Liam, the DNA report is out. We're not related to Ashley by blood!"
"How is that possible?" Liam said, shocked. "There must be a mistake. Didn't Ethan already confirm the relationship? How can this report be different?"
Liam was getting worked up. "Ashley looks just like our parents. How can she not be our sister?"
His raised voice caught the attention of the three women nearby. Ashley, confused, asked, "What are they talking about? Why do they look so serious?"
Samantha and May shook their heads, equally puzzled.
Landon noticed Ashley's curious look and signaled Liam to lower his voice. "Don't shout. If they hear this, it'll just cause more trouble. Ethan must be wrong. We did the DNA test ourselves. This report must be accurate."
"Then what do we do? We're about to take her back to the White family."
As they talked, they glanced at Ashley. She felt a sudden pang of anxiety.
Ashley cautiously asked, "Landon, Liam, what are you talking about? Does it have something to do with me?" She eyed the document in their hands. "What are you holding?"
Landon and Liam exchanged uneasy glances, unsure of what to say.
The tension was thick.
Samantha stepped forward, grabbed the document, and read it. Her face turned sympathetic as she looked at Ashley.
Ashley felt a sharp pain in her heart and asked, trembling, "What is it?"
Samantha threw the report back to the brothers, glared at them, and hugged Ashley. "Ashley, it's okay. We won't go to the White family. Let's go back to Maple Grove Estate first."
Ashley's eyes widened in shock. "What is going on? Can you just tell me directly?"
Liam stayed silent, his eyes apologetic.
Landon said, "Ms. Wilson, I'm sorry. The DNA test confirmed you're not related to the White family by blood."
Ashley felt like her world was collapsing.
She let out a bitter laugh. "I must be really unlucky to face all these misfortunes."
Looking back, she saw her life as a tragic movie. Growing up alone in an orphanage, thinking she found a loving family only to lose it, wanting to be a mother but not being able to, hoping to spend her life with the man she loved but ending in divorce, and now this...
A thousand needles seemed to twist in her chest, each one a fresh stab of agony.
Suppressing the urge to cry, Ashley said, "Samantha, take me away. As far away as possible. I don't want to stay in this place that makes me feel so sad..."
