Chapter 61 Forced to Acknowledge Kinship

"Mr. Yates, do you think the couple online aren't really Mrs. Yates' parents?"

Ethan nodded. "Better safe than sorry. Go ahead with your task."

"Got it, Mr. Yates."

Ethan glanced at the sky. The helicopter was already a speck in the distance. Thinking about Ashley leaving, he felt a sudden emptiness.

The next day.

Before Ashley arrived, she had already spoken to Tom and Ella on the phone. They said they'd wait for her under the yellow tree at the village entrance.

As soon as Ashley got there, she saw the two of them, dressed plainly and looking worn out.

Every time Ashley thought about her long-lost parents, it felt like a needle in her heart. But seeing them now, she felt oddly calm.

"Daughter!"

Ella, overwhelmed, rushed forward and hugged Ashley, crying.

Tom looked equally emotional. "My precious daughter, we finally found you..."

Ashley awkwardly hugged them back. "My husband has already arranged for a DNA test at the hospital. Let's go."

Tom and Ella exchanged nervous glances.

"Daughter, do you think less of us because we're poor?"

Ashley looked puzzled. "Why would you say that?"

Ella sobbed, "We sold everything to search for you. Now that you're married to a rich man, you look down on us."

Tom added, "Why didn't you call us Mom and Dad right away? You don't seem happy to see us. Is it because we're poor that you want a DNA test?"

Ella cried harder and knelt. "What did we do to deserve this? We finally found you, and you look down on us..."

"Mr. Parker, Mrs. Parker, please don't do this..."

"I want to confirm our relationship scientifically. This has nothing to do with money! Once it's confirmed, I'll call you Mom and Dad."

For some reason, meeting them in person didn't bring any sense of familiarity. Their crying and fussing, though pitiful, irritated her.

Ella cried out, "Everyone, come see! I finally found my daughter, and she looks down on us..."

Villagers gathered, pointing and whispering about Ashley.

"Mr. Parker, Mrs. Parker, I don't look down on you!"

"Don't you? Then why don't you call us Mom and Dad? Don't you have a birthmark behind your ear? And a red mole near your collarbone?"

Ashley was speechless. She did have those marks.

The crowd buzzed. Someone noticed the birthmark behind Ashley's ear. Ella suddenly lunged and pulled at Ashley's collar.

Ashley yelped and tried to protect herself, but Ella was too strong. With a tug, the red mole on her collarbone was exposed.

This made Ashley feel repulsed.

"It's really her. All the marks match. She's the long-lost daughter of the Wilson family!"

"Ashley, be decent. Don't abandon your parents just because you married a rich man!"

Ella said, "You are my daughter, Ashley. You must acknowledge us today!"

A glimmer of light flashed in Ashley's eyes. "Dad... Mom... Let's not talk here. Let's go inside and discuss."

Calling someone else mom and dad for the first time felt very awkward for Ashley.
